Colloidal silver for quail

If it were just a sprain or contusion it would already be healed. 2 weeks points toward fracture or break in my mind. I don't know how long those take to heal in a quail. A human is about 6 weeks, so I imagine faster for a quail, but I don't know how much.

But if we give her time she might be ok is what I'm trying to find out. Nothing looks crooked or misplaced. Not sure what a vet would do if it were broken. Might just give it time and keep using the poultice for now. I'll leave update photos after another week

I would give her another week. I prefer to give them a chance rather than cull too quickly.

If I recall correctly, it should take about 3-4 weeks to heal.

It should heal, but the two main issues are pain and healing in the correct position. If it heals in the wrong position, she probably won't be able to walk properly. Just make sure she keeps off it.

Is there any chance you could get painkiller for her? I don't know what one to recommend (besides one that's only available in Australia), but someone else might know of one if you want to give it a try.

There is no clinical evidence that colloidal silver has any effect at all. In small or recommended doses, it does no harm, but in large doses it can be harmful.

I believe that's only because there hasn't been any pharmaceuticals funding the research. It's not patentable so there is no gain for them to do the research. It's a common recipe and people can make it themselves. It's been used for centuries with positive results. I swear by it. I use it on myself and my animals. If you buy it from a reputable place it won't cause problems at all.

Studies have been done. In fact, enough studies have been done to show that overdosing will actually cause skin discolouration which for the most part isn't harmful unless seriously overdosed on. At least it doesn't do any harm.

Yes, if you abuse it (as can happen with antibiotics and conventional medicine) there is a possibility of complications - as well if you use poor versions of the product. I saw the program Oprah had years ago where it turned a man's skin blue and this gave the general public a fear-based opinion of colloidal silver. There are risks with everything. Ivamec used to treat parasites on cows (and chickens) is an example of a product used on animals and if you read carefully, they advise that women should not even handle it (!!) - and almost every medicine we are prescribed has side effects. The link that you gave is one of the ones that I looked at. I do see that it shows some usefulness on topical treatment, but advises against taking it internally.

Now this is the sort of information exchange I appreciate when talking about potentially controversial treatments. Science all the way!
