So Im a relatively new chicken owner, Ive had chickens before but never bred them as I never had a rooster. One of the Silver Spangled Hamburg pullets ended up being a cockerel

but would like to keep him for breeding.

Ive been using this "chicken color calculator" at http://kippenjungle.nl/kruising.html but I'm not sure if its correct as now matter what color I cross with the silver spangled male I seem to get very similar colors.

My females are Silver spangled hamburg, Partridge Cochin, White cochin, blue cochin, hatchery "red" cochin but looks more buff Colombian, and Barnevelders

When I put White X silver spangled the calculator says I would get either solid black chickens or yellow spangled males, which I don't see how that's possible

Does anyone have any expertise on what would result from crossing my male to my females?

Thanks to anyone who could lend me any sort of help, pictures of similar color crosses would be appreciated as well

Thanks again

I believe that @Michael OShay would be very helpful to you, understands coloring and genetics very well.

Many cases what you are seeing is that one cross will not provide much change because the offspring are not carrying all the genes to see traits come through. The next generation birds if bred properly would give you more results or changes in colors.

I like to use this version of kippenjungle, makes putting breeds in easier. Some cases you will have to understand that there are differences in what Europeans call colors or patterns as in the US we may use different terms.

Sorry I didn't recommend you, didn't know of you! Hello! I just looked at the link. Is there a genetics for dummies? I have the opportunity to put RIR over Buff Orpington. What would I get? I also can put an Amberlink over an Amberlink, would that still equal mutt? I am assuming if I put an RIR over an RIR, I'm gonna get RIR.....

That looks like it would be a great one for me. I just can't figure out how to change the color.
There's a couple ways to change the colors. "Browse Male" and "Browse Female" for some color or pattern and color. Then you can also change more specifics on the different loci. It is definitely helpful knowing some of the genetics in your birds and how they work, but once you start plugging in things and trying them out you learn pretty quick. Some of the defaults of the e-loci will need to be changed at times when you know a few of the colors are newer or not called the same thing in Europe. Its a great tool. When it hangs up and doesn't give you a calculation you know you have multiple thousands of varieties that could happen.

Here's the short version of it. RIR over Buff Orpington would give you a Buff birds. Both are fairly similar birds though the RIR is columbian and should have some red/gold enhancing genes that will split in the chicks. The third crossing with provide you some birds that will be buff some that are more RIR red and some columbian and not columbian. Amberlinks I am not familiar with but assume they are a red Sex-link. With sex links anything is possible depending on what went into them in the first place.

thank you @Makomd Interesting. some one told me the Amberlink is a Sliver Gene Roo over a Gold/red hen. The Amberlinks I have are white with tan/gold shoulders with some flecks on the backs. The roo, interestingly has a stray black and white barred and red/gold in hackles and tail. Now looking for genetics for idiots or version 1.0

Okay then they are a silver/gold sex link. Gold male over silver hen. There are some many different names for sex links I don't even try to keep up, lol.

Same outcome unless you know the parentage. Any gold male over any silver female will provide this cross.
