Good morning y'all!

Just a couple quick questions on coloring for the more experienced among you....I currently have a Blue slate tom covering a royal palm hen ( he is also with a slate hen so I know what that will produce
tongue.png
) What would the slate and palm produce color-wise? what would it be called?

And I also have a Royal tom covering what I believe is a royal/bourbon cross (could also be royal/bronze cross, I am not sure)...I just threw her in with the royals to see what her babies would look like, I am having a hard time waiting for turkey hatching season to see for myself.

Any ideas anyone?

A blue slate is a black-based bird with a single blue gene. Royal palms are black-wing based with double recessive gray and Narragansett genes. The Black base and the blue gene from the slate are dominant genes, and everything in the Palm is recessive, so the offspring should look like blacks if they don't get the blue gene, and blue slates if they do. The next generation is a mess.

Whether your next hen is RP x BR or RP x bronze is easy to determine. Any RP tom crossed with standard bronze hen will produce toms that look like standard bronze and hens that look like Narragansetts. If the bronze was the tom, the will all look bronze. Palms crossed with bourbon reds will produce red bronzes if the hen was the royal palm, and red bronze toms and golden Narragansett hens if the hen as the bourbon red. Breeding back to the Royal Palm can produce many kinds of offspring because whatever you have is carrying recessive gray and Narragansett genes. Since the tom is a Royal palm, all the hen offspring should still look Narragansett (golden or normal), but they may or may not have black wings, may or may not get two gray genes (two required for expression), and may or may not get the red gene (if a bourbon red was ever involved). When I say hens should all look Narrragansett, I mean the narragansett gene will express itself. So if you get a black-winged hen with two grays and no red gene, it will be a Royal Palm. If it gets the red gene its a Calico, etc. But you can have several other results as well.
