Color of the egg

I'm sure there are better experts out there on this, but doesn't "birchen" refer to the coloring not a specific breed. There are Birchen Bantam Cochins, Birchen OEGB etc..

Yes, Birchen is just the color of the chicken. I guess it doesn't matter about that. The eggs are perfect, yummy in our cobbler tonight. I was just wondering why they were white instead of brown. Is it something with her feed or do cochins sometimes lay white eggs. I just got her from a friend and she's a couple of years old. Just curious.

This is weird to me too. My friend had cochins, and I thought they laid brown eggs as well.

I bought 2 hens to brood my "future" peafowl eggs....didnt work out...anyway they laid huge white eggs for bantam cochins! Like the size of a game hen!

Lucky you with the big eggs! They're white, but still small. I use 2 for a recipe that calls for 1 large. We have to wait at least a week for scrambled eggs ( I have 5 kids) as she's the only one laying yet.

Oh wow, that just made me think about a story my grandmother told me!
when she wanted cookies shed wait by the chicken coop and her mother always told people she would sueeze the chickens untill an egg popped out.

sadly thats not how it works. lol

My old OEG hen laid little bitty eggs, not even enough yolk to make a scrambled egg.

The little girl that lives next door just told me tonight that one of her chickens is laying jumbo x-large eggs. As soon as she figures out which one it is, she's going to let me know what breed it is and that will be my next aquisition to the flock.

(not that I need an excuse to get more chickens)
