Can a chicken be split to other colors like black split to blue? I hatched a chick and im pretty sure its blue its parents are a black ameraucana x bcm and i know for a fact the father as hes the only bird i own with a pea comb and chick has a pea comb and the egg is from my only bcm hen so theres no mix up

The answer to the first question is no.. A bird cannot be black and "split to blue".

No copies of blue gene = black bird
One copy of blue gene = blue bird
Two copies of blue gene = splash bird

Is it possible that one of the parents is actually a very very dark blue? It's not uncommon for people to have blue birds that are so dark as to look black :)

Pictures of the parents (and any other possible roosters) would be useful!
