Sorry I should have introduced first then asked my question about the Chick cross-legged problems! Just wanted to say hi, I love the community here, I've read more than a few articles here before but never signed up, until, of course, something bad happened. Glad to see chicken farmers come together, people here actually really seem to care about animals, which is not always the case with farmers out there.
I got Australian Austrolorps... (spelling is off isn't it?) about 2 months ago. They are gorgeous. We had 3 but one died to my pet rat... the chicken tried to eat it. We only found out because I found the wound on a rat that was otherwise living happily with the cat and chicks in the barn. Now I know never to put those together. The rat ow lives in a large cage, he is doing fine, and the chick it killed we buried under a raspberry bush, so that it will feed the plant for all year to come.
I also have 4 production reds (only 3 weeks!) Adorable. I can't get enough of hanging out with them. I don't think we will be butchering any of them... they will all be egg layers.
I found you by googling various chicken questions, and read extensively on many articles here!
I love to write. I will write all day, for 12 hours, especially with a friend. Story building and whatnot.
We have a snake, a cat, a rat, and 6 chickens total, as well as a garden. We are big believers in sustainable agriculture, and we love animals WAY more than we love people heh! Any help is appreciated when it comes to making their lives easier and happier.
