Colorado Shooting - How horrible!

I don't even remember my last post and I am sort of done with this subject but... Al Jazeera is surprisingly good. Qatar is a nation with a population of rich individuals.. they are friends to the United States and are a leading model in the middle east. We were told by the previous president that Al Jazeera was terrorist but if you look at the way they handled the "Arab spring" you will see they have provided real news... real news that has hurt relations with the dictators Qatar has long allied with. The king of Qatar is smart.. he doesn't hate women, he doesn't hate the US.. Like I said, I'm done with this subject.. but I really wish the media would show his type more than the terrorist type.

Between Al Jazeera and Twitter there has been no better tool for the "Arab spring." It may not be popular here at home but I would ask how our opinions are relevant? The will of the people caused this. I think we should stay out of it and respect whatever they pick.

A doctor in most states as I understand it has a obligation to report anyone that may harm there self or others to authorities. The check now required to buy weapons would flag these people an stop the sale.

A well known gun rights person from from Tn on YouTube was flagged for making a bad joke to to doctor an they took all of his guns for his safty.

Yeah..I saw that. I felt so bad for that man!! Did ge ever get his gun permits back? :(

What you say about politicians is universal so don't look there for very much.

I believe that the economic advance of China is a bubble. At least, if the old Western industrial nations could produce their better quality at lower prices, the game would be over for China. Chinese companies can make excellent quality while a Western boss is standing over them (viz. Apple and BMW) but, left alone, will try to scam the world with shoddy quality. On the other hand, Chinese families running their own businesses are hard working and successful but usually not in their ancestral homeland.

The economic threat to the West is Asia as a whole. Asians, by and large, haven't yet fully grasped what Western society can offer. Whether or not you agree with it, they will work hard for less pay and live with fewer material comforts. That spells damnation for Western business because of the expectations of workers and owners there.

The news stations that you read probably, between them, give as balanced a view as you can get. The BBC is probably the best of those. Also try Sky on the internet. I can't see it these days but the English speaking Al Jazeera TV channel is also remarkably even handed. You may hesitate, as I did, to believe that but try it or its website if you can.

I actually read Al Jazeera, it is one of my better new sources, some reporters can be a bit bias but over all it is the least bias news site I have found. BBC is also good but lately they have been getting worse. The sad thing is that so many people in the US have a, I hate to say it but, racism toward Middle Easterners. If I use it to justify an argument I often get bashed because it was created by Middle Easterners and because of the issues Bush had with them. (few will remember that was the reason) After the attacks in 2001 it is hard to use anything that even sounds Middle Eastern in an argument. When I worked at the court I couldn't even read Al Jazeera because they monitored what you looked at and I could have lost my internship and any chance at a job there. My parents taught me to respect all cultures and hold people accountable for there actions, they may not believe it themselves but I kept that lesson and I will teach it to my children.

The issues with Asians willing to work in much harsher conditions for far less pay is a serious threat. Small business don't have much of a chance anymore and very little is made here. This is a serious threat to our economy and our chances of survival as a leading power. It is our government, large corporations, and the people's faults. We let it get out of hand by buying cheep products from other countries when there were other options. I will say that people that I know don't like to think too much about something and they just don't see the impact of there actions, I have never been able to travel to another country so I have no idea if that is a US thing and we became complacent or if it is a human thing. I do have to consider the fact that when cheep foreign goods started to enter our market people didn't have access to as much information about there neighbors as they do now.

I personally hate exploiting cheap labor because I know not only are the people paid poorly but they are treated poorly and it kills our own economy, but it is so out of hand over here that it is almost not possible to buy products not from another country. With how bad things have gotten it is much harder people have to choose between food and ethics. I do look at companies when I have to make a major purchase, I will not buy Apple because they are the least environmentally friendly and I know what that means for the people who build the machines. I also do not like there marketing practices. I also do not support American movie franchises that produce in other countries because it is cheaper, they make more then enough from ticket sales to justify the cost of producing it here. I will not be seeing Iron Man 3 or any of the other movies they plan on producing in China. I am learning to be more self sufficient so that I can have less guilt about my life choices and who it effects. One of the reasons I have chickens. I think more people in the US are making the same decisions as I am and more because the government won't. They make token moves during elections years and that is all they do to try and resolve the problems we have right now.

The economy is all about free trade. Import taxes is what kept it cheaper to build here an Ross Perot said if we did the free trade thing we would lose all our jobs. We did an that's what happened.

We're drifting off topic a bit but I'd like to add something about exploited cheap labour.

Factory wages here are around US$300 per month and the work is repetitive and boring for most employees. However, many of those employees would struggle to make any kind of living if the factories didn't exist. Most factories seem to have been built by or for Japanese and other Asian companies that want to take advantage of Thailand's unskilled labour pool. The factories are all modern and air conditioned and set in landscaped grounds. The employees are glad that you buy the goods they make. The alternative for many would be a life spent bent double working in the rice fields.

Foreign firms here employing local labour in unskilled or semi-skilled jobs include:

Ford
Mitsubishi
Toyota
Mazda
Triumph
Cargill
LG
Tesco

There are very many small businesses that have part foreign ownership.

Al Jazeera is surprisingly well balanced in its reporting but I don't know whether everyone in the 'rest of the world' would share its point od view. One thing that I particularly like about the English language broadcast is that they give it straight with no sanitisation of nasty stuff. If we are to form our own balanced opinions, that's the kind of reporting that we need.

Free trade works only if every importing nation does it.

I am glad that some of the labor is not the picture painted for us, just wish outsourcing did not cost me my job. My last job went to an office in Indonesia, it was repetitive and boring computer work but I am one of the few who excel at that kind of work. Sadly it did not build much in the way of skills and make it hard for me to find more work. Makes it a little more personal and the picture of others being treated unfairly helps me be angry at my last employer however I know that it is a nice office job and they pay better then most in the area.

Okay back to to topic now. ;)
