Colorado Springs HOA issues

We need to change the Hoa covenants in the the Springs area concerning chickens. I have raised and grown chickens my whole life in other states but moved here recently to north Colorado Springs and have 1/2 acre but the Hoa does not allow chickens. It is rediculous to me but I have to abide. Unless all of us in the springs area can get together in force and try and get them to have some flexibility to the chicken code. I am in if any one starts a petition.

Go to Denver Backyard Farms, They have links for city regulations. I would think that city ordiance could be an override to HOA rules, but you never know! Personally HOA's are like having an entire neighborhood of Mrs. Kravitz. They have nothing better to do!!

Also from Colorado Springs here. Actually I'm fortunate that I'm in an enclave of unincorporated El Paso County (80922) surrounded by Colorado Springs with no HOA. I haven't got my girls yet but my neighbours are supportive. I don't know where we, as a society, got this dunderheaded notion that we need our neighbours' permission to do stuff on our own property but it needs to stop.

HOAs have nothing to do with the city or the area it is just neighborhood by neighborhood so it would be something that you need to bring up with your individual HOA. Find out how it runs. There is usually a board with elected members or some sort of voting something. See what you have to do to have issues brought up and rules changed. The best thing to do would be to get neighbors on your side.

Reminds me of a Duck Dynasty episode regarding the Robertsons having chickens. A bunch of stuffy fuddy duddys. "you signed the contract that said no chickens"..nuff said.

Nope you are wrong, the only way the zoning ordienance will override is if it where in place first, or makes it more strict, had friends who lost a court case because they thought the same way you did, and they hired a lawyer who wanted to take it to court knowing he would loose to make more money by taking it to court.
