Colorado

That's really sad. I would love to take 2 of these hens. If any one is driving up there I would gladly pay for some gas if you picked me up 2. I have to work Friday and Saturday or I would go myself. If any one is going please let me know!

Good thought about gas money - I would also contribute some gas money if someone wants to make the trek in exchange for a couple of hens. Anyone have time? I can bring you a crate or two to transport as well. I have appointment in PW at 9:30 and conference call at 10:30, so would have to meet someone pretty early, or right at exit 119 at about 10:15. If you have the containers and just need the gas $ contribution I can paypal it.

I contacted the people in hudson from CL two days ago, but I haven't heard back from them yet. I'm weary about getting eggs shipped, haven't had the best luck. But I'm not opposed to local eggs, I would go in on an order as well. If you have any luck also let me know, and I'll do the same for you.

Are referring to Fulenwider Farms? I've been in touch with them over the last few weeks and spoke with them just this past Saturday. I'm on a contact list for their chick hatching which should be starting in about a week.

I dropped them an e-mail about bantams. Hopefully they have some. They are so close to me.
I also called a lady from Hudson today about bantams. She's getting ready to start chicks soon.

Auntie! Hard to lose an oldie but goodie.
Welcome ekr1984 ! and any other newbies that I may have missed!
What are you all selling your eating eggs for these days? I am starting out at 3.75 doz. and I may go up.

I am asking $3.50 but have yet to sell any LOL. I also have not advertised, I don't have that many to sell right now. Late summer/early autumn I should have more as my laying flock is enlarged.

Did you get your Sand Hill catalog in the mail? Mine arrived yesterday. Have not decided whether to order from them, they are pricey and I've read a couple of accounts of waiting into another year for order fulfillment, but they do have a nice variety of colors in Dorkings and they also have Red Sussex.

I'm in Aurora, just joined the forum and ordered our coop this morning. It should be here next Friday and then a week after that is the urban homesteader's chicken swap so hopefully we can pick up some hens there. They had some last time so I'm hoping that there will be more there this time.

Welcome! What kind of hens are you hoping for?

My Silkie eggs finally arrived today. Picked them up at the PO this afternoon, got home to learn I had received 24 eggs even though I only paid for 18, bless her heart. Candled as soon as I unwrapped them all, many have no air cells, four have air cells solid and perfectly located, one has air cell at the pointy end. Resting in their cartons right now. Would like to set them Saturday morning so they hatch Friday the 8th (I'm usually home on Fridays and WILL be that one LOL). Shed delivery is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon darn it. Was hoping for a morning delivery, but such is life.

Wendell, I am going to try and snag the pickup Monday so I can pick up the brooder when I leave work, if that is okay, if not whatever day works better for you. How is Beth? If she has chemo/appointments that day another will be fine. Bob plans to use the pickup tomorrow to move all his tools back home and then attend the Vestas job fair in Pueblo.

Congrats on the eggs/

Monday should be fine, Beth has chemo at 1, so we should be home by 4-4:30. I'm pretty sure one of the older kids will be there if we aren't.

I was selling them for $3.00 per dozen. Then they slowed down so that we now only have enough for our own useage. Then at the end of next month we set up the breeding pens. We won't be selling any more eating eggs until the breeding is done.
