Colorado

tsgreer, do you by chance have any RIR roos? I am interested in trying to breed my own Golden comets. I think I will need one or two. I have never had a roo so this will be a first. I have 30 hens and would like at least that many more. I have found their personalities, winter hardy and great laying fits my needs. I think I am going to just order the white rock hens. I have used Schelchet and Dunlap Hatcheries, any other good places anyone can recommend? I live way up in the NW corner of the state 8 miles from WY border so I try to get birds from the closest hatchery. I am going to do a bator run the end of the month with some free eggs so, tsgreer, if you have any fertilized RIR eggs for sale I would be interested.

Hi ruralmom! Welcome to BYC

I've always gotten my chicks from Ideal Hatchery in Texas and have had very good luck with them. They're also very easy to talk to and do business with.

I've had great success with Ideal too. I have a shipment coming from the on the 19th. Can't wait to get my fuzzy butts!! This is my 6th order with Ideal over the last 2 years. Out of 5 orders, and 50 chicks ordered I've only had 1 DOA. Pretty good sats IMO.

25 light brahma roos to raise for dinner.

I've found that brahma roos make really juicy, big roasters. Not a big fan of CRx. Then we're getting 3 pullets; a gold laced cochin (to replace my daighter's one who injured her leg and never recovered from the injury

), a golden phoenix, and a Delaware. I'm getting 3 bobwhite quail from Aimee, for my son, too. Can't wait for chick season to start.

Cara, you're more than welcome to come over and love on them if you'd like!!!

Well, I still have 6 in the backyard toodling around. The code enforcement called this morning and DH told her to mind her own business JUST KIDDING!!! As much as we want to....
But DH told her we have them on Craigs and blah blah blah and she said "Ok not a problem" Of all the things that they COULD and SHOULD be worrying about, these little chickens that even my neighbors didn't know about are just causing WAY too much trouble. Running the streets, breaking into cars, robbing banks...I think you get my point. I'm still thinking of getting that horse though, that the city will apparently allow us. I think we should all get them

Ok I'll be quiet, just tired of it all.

I've had that same problem myself, lol! I have a group of thug hens who knocked off the Loaf n Jug last week.

I can't see how a horse can be better. They make a much bigger, stinkier mess.
