Cool! Er, I mean, hopefully Warm! Can't wait to hear how it goes!

Chickenfest update: We have created the event on our Windy Ridge facebook page. If you plan on attending, or would like to bring birds for sale, please like our page and indicate that you will be attending. That way it will be easier to have an idea on how many are coming. I think we are going to buy a portapotty........

Buy? They rent them cheaper! And you don't have to clean it!

Set my Silkie eggs in the incubator, haven't plugged in the turner yet, I don't see any detached air cells but have been advised to wait 24-48 hours to activate the turner for shipped eggs. I'm really happy with the variety she sent, there are 6 Porcelain, 6 Lavender, 3 Buff, 3 Blue Splash, 4 White from 3 different pens, and 2 Paint. If I get even a 50% hatch considering the shipping effect I will be pleased. As long as I get some pullets, that is LOL.

Everything is

:)

I was told to rest the eggs for a day or two depending on where they shipped from before placing in the incubator and then putting them in and not turning them for 3 days. I can't say it worked for me but the reasoning behind it seemed sound.

Yes. but I just saw one on Craigs list for $150, and i could keep it out in the chicken management area for use while working..... Of course it was used, but it could come in handy

With as handy as you are, couldn't you just build an outhouse? Gosh, outhouses. I was still using an outhouse in the 80s. I'd say they bring back fond memories but gosh, could those seats get cold in the winter. =) The outhouses of today are so much prettier than what I grew up with.

Awesome! I've prused the diy incubator pages here and some of them work awesomely.

Pozees- I missed your original post somehow. I rest them a minimum of 18 hours then put them I the incubator with the turner off for 3 days then candle. Depending on what you see then you can either turn on the turner or let it go for a few more days. That's what I am doing anyway. :)

this is the first batch that has had this many problems for me. the first three batches of chicks i only had one or two per batch that needed looked at once or twice. the fourth batch didnt have any problems, and these guys do. i think part of it is that there are so many silkies and cochin types. i also forgot to put acv in the water the first day, which i did with all the other batches. other than that ive always used medicated for the first few weeks and then switched to flock raiser

Newbie here... what's acv?
