Hi everyone!

I've been lurking for a while, taking in everything I can before jumping in with questions.
I'm new to chickens and just got 2 Ameraucana chicks last weekend; I'm in love!

Here's my question: I have 2 frizzle cochin bantam chicks reserved at Elizabeth Country Corner, they come in February 15 - can I keep them in the same brooder as my Ameraucanas that will be almost 4 weeks by that time?
I debated posting this in the Raising Baby Chicks Forum, but you all seem plenty knowledgeable!

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and advice!

Ps- I'm glad to see there are other Arvada chicken keepers! Yay!

Sounds like the age difference is to much. 3 weeks would be pushing it from what I've heard.

Welcome to BYC :). More specifically welcome to CO BYC!

I am unqualified to give you an answer as to your question though from everything that I have read it sounds like that wouldn't be a great idea. Setting up a second brooder shouldn't be to hard though.

Quote: Just to extend this offer.....If you are within an hour drive of CO Springs, I will be picking up chicks from the Kiowa store on March 22. The two stores are only about 8-10 miles apart, so I wouldn't mind picking up from either for you. I will gladly deliver to you. Feel free to PM me if you have ordered anything for 3/22 and would like me to pick up for you from either store.

FWIW Here's my experience with having different aged chicks together. I added day olds to some previously purchased 3 week olds. That integration went relatively well. A little curiosity pecking, but no out and out aggression. Then two weeks later I tried adding more day olds. The then 5 week olds were EXTREMELY aggressive and mean and I had to separate them.

Just sayin....something happens to their little brains somewhere between 3 and 5 weeks old.

It can be done, but it's not easy. The bigger babies have developed attitude by then. What I did, is have them live side by side with a clear or small mesh divider between them so they can see eachother. Then after a couple of days let them socialize supervised for a short amount of time. When it starts going well, they can live together. I started when mine were six weeks and four weeks, when I do it again, I'll do it starting at day one for the younger babies.
