has anyone had experience with silkies? I have 2 chicks, one is 6 days and the other is maybe 9 and one is twice the size of the other! Is that a sign of a roo?
I can't have any roosters where i am, but the feed store is willing to trade out any roos for other chicks...i just don't want a huge age gap, or for them to run out of silkies!

Give it a few more days but it could be failure to thrive in the small one.

Morning,

In my experience of brooding 100s of chicks of all breeds, banties and LF, I've never seperated them by size. I've let them grow up together and then be put in the barn/coop all together. They don't really know the difference. They all do fine together.

I'm new to having chickens but I wanted to chime in too. My buff orpington is about half the size of my barred rock and is the smallest of my flock. They all get along fine despite a decent size difference.

Too much time on the Coop.

And a water pressure pump to replace the one that burned out.......

And a replacement washer because the other one wont spin, or rinse........ (too many sensors gone...)

And possibly a new dryer, cuz the other one finally died. (bearings, heating element, controller, etc.)

We won't buy appliances from Lowe's however. That's where we bought the last ones, and they only lasted about 5 years. With service calls. The washer went less than a year before breaking the first time. Looking for hte best deals on front loaders. Beth can't bend over any more to reach into a washing machine.

Ok, I swear Little Red is laying more than one egg a day sometimes! This is the third time I have found two pullet eggs out there! Granted she could have laid one last night and then another today but I picked up an egg from her yesterday! And one the day before that! Every third day or so it seems I get two eggs. Am I going nuts or is her egg drive in overtime? I haven't exactly been keeping a log but she is laying a LOT.
