Whee! What a fun week so far... NOT!

Saturday night after the chicken swap, I didn't feel so hot so I went to bed early, and spent most of my time since then either in my bed or the bathroom. I'm still not a 100%, but all I'm dealing with now is dehydration.

We sold 11 chicks, which is more than I hoped for since it's still early and they were straight run. I'll be able to sex a lot of them by the next chicken swap. I've already got a couple of boys turning red. We also have more chicks coming in the next week or so, we're gonna be over run by chickens here pretty soon! :) Thankfully we have the space for them and aren't afraid to eat them.

Oh wow, sorry you were sick!

Shed update:

Today we put the last of the hurricane ties on the roof trusses - decided to put two on each end instead of one - and got started on siding. One 12' end wall is done, and the window and first sheet of siding is on the 16' wall that faces South. We saw clouds, so at 4 pm I came in to check radar and weather report, and we ran out of adhesive, so we decided it was a sign we should clean up and tarp everything - 50% chance of rain/snow tonight. For the first time since we can remember we are hoping for no moisture - and we desperately need it, but more desperately need to get this shed done. Once we got through the learning curve on installing the siding it mainly went well, and we are happy with what is up so far. I took a picture, but honestly I'm too tired to get up and get my phone and email it to myself to post LOL. We worked about 8 hours straight through without a break, then I had to refresh water in the brooders - five trips into the crawl space, out and to the kitchen, etc. - and top off feeders - all the chicks are doing great, one had a pasty butt which I took care of, and had another Silkie casualty, which is a bummer. In my head I know they are more fragile, but losing one more than 24 hours after arrival is unusual, at least it has been in my experience. Thought I was going to lose a Leghorn, it was trapped behind the feeder when I changed water and topped off food yesterday and very weak when I found it, but I kept dipping its beak in the water - at least a couple dozen times over 30 minutes - and today she was fine, so whew!

Moved the Silkie eggs into the hatcher tonight. Did not candle, at this late in incubation it's usually hard to tell unless you see movement whether they are still viable, these 11 were viable last weekend so hoping, hoping, and hoping some more I have 11 Silkie chicks by the end of the weekend. These are for me, to begin my broody flock, and if they turn out nice enough I may keep a couple roosters to perpetuate it.

If weather is cold/wet I am headed to work in the morning, if it defies predictions I will stay here and get the siding done.
