So why do people want to know what you feed your chickens? Don't they realize that when they have any access to the outside, they forage with lots of bugs and gross stuff? I just don't get the question sometimes. Why do people want chickens on vegetarian food?

I think there are folks who are making their first foray into growing their own food who don't consider how it is made. If they learn how most grocery store eggs are made, a few bugs and other "gross stuff" seems nothing in comparison. All we can do is educate, converse, inform, and hope for the best.

Wow, nice benefit!

Heard the sector of highway from PPIR to Ft Carson was brutal this morning.

Mayah says you have had best success with shipped eggs hatching, care to share what you did?
Im not sure about the highway, but Old Pueblo road wasnt much better at 5:30 this morning. I only saw 4 cars in ditches. I stopped and helped one out, as the person was still in it. It didnt take long. I had decided to take the truck to work this morning. very slick out there this morning. towed the kids behind the four wheeler when I got home this afternoon. Had a great time!! Im just a big kid at heart. I refuse to grow up!!!!!!

It's day 19 for my eggs... The suspense is killing me! What humidity do y'all use for lockdown? I have mine hovering between 49-50%. Wondering if I should increase or not. They were at 35-40% for the first 18 days.

I am a very impatient person and this is teaching me to be patient... Bah.

I am also having a hard time being patient for my gqf 1502 that I am picking up on Saturday... To put a cherry on top he says it comes with all kinds of spare parts. Exciting.

I have a long Friday ahead of me...
I hope you can make it through tomorrow and actually get some sleep Friday night. I dont think I would be able to. I will start keeping some eggs out of the fridge for you. I am getting 3 to 5 a day right now. This cold snap may slow them down a bit however. I have 22 in the fridge at this point, which should hold me for a few days. I just have to remind my kids not to put the next few days eggs in the fridge. Good luck sleeping. I will be anxious to see some pics of the incubator after you get it.

I am just kicking myself now. I already made my homemade cabinet.. I wish I could have had this sooner so I could have copied the measurements and made a perfect clone for a hatcher!!

I can't wait to set some eggs in a "real" incubator! I am excited to compare my homemade to the gqf. Thanks for setting some eggs aside! I will christen my new bator with your eggs! Figuratively speaking of course. I'm not going to smash eggs on my incubator..

I feel a little at ease as the guy took his add off of Craigslist. So I am thinking I am for sure going to get it... You all know how CL goes though..

My chicks come in on the 1st... I am.. What's the word.. bittersweet? I have had so much fun building things.. The coop, the brooder, the incubator... At least I haven't finished the fence yet lol. It's scary to think I will finally have chickens of my own!! What a long strange trip it's been.

It will be fun to see what color/colors come out of my mismatch of eggs. white Leghorn rooster and barred rock, buff cochin,Rhode island red and california white. I know what color each type lays, so I can mark them for you. also the date collected. I believe there are more people aound on craigslist and here on BYC that you could get eggs from also. May as well get quite a few going in the new bator.
I know exactly what you mean about craigslist. I have had a few items sold from underneath me.

'll get back with you tonight on my experience @ 8600 ( when my newc computer is up and running) Let the eggs rest and load tomorrow. what kind of eggs?
Bantam Cochin. Thanks I'd appreciate any help I can get! I don't expect much but thought I'd give it a try. I received 18 eggs but one was cracked. I'll patch it but I'll doubt that one will survive. It seems many at altitude get their eggs to lockdown only to never have them pip-some say too humid they drowned but others say cuz we're so dry we need more humidity. I'm at a loss. I know low o2 is too blame...

I always up mine to around 65% during lockdown. It will rise a bit as they start pipping. Mine go on lockdown for my next bunch in two days. The last bunch is still brooding and I'm trying to figure out which ones I'd like to keep. =)
