Chook Chick- I bet Hazel would be a great house chicken, and great with little chicks too! I don't see why younger chicks wouldn't accept her, she is bigger. Since she has been handled so much, I think she would be super gentle!!

I contacted the owner by email as they asked....we'll see what he says. I'd like to know some of her background and if she was born lame or ?

I've been mia for a while. My schedule at work has been changing almost weekly since November and now I'm on a fixed shift that hopefully won't move again till next year's shift bid.

My late fall batch of assorted chicks have now been laying for 3 weeks. Turns out that some of them are bantams. Wasn't planning on that but it turned out well since my kids are liking the smaller eggs which doesn't that mean they eat less.

I'm just now getting breeders figured out and will be setting eggs in the next few weeks if all goes well. I'll be hatching PBR, Delawares (late summer), Red & Black Stars.

If you are still reading I am looking for a male Pekin duck for my girl. She has been laying one egg a day since mid February and I've been thinking about hatching some ducks.

Look forward to being involved in the group again.

Anyone know of any good places to get bantams up here in the northern Colorado/Fort Collins area? I'm so very new to all of this, and I've been trying to find some where good to get them from, but I'm not sure who's good and who's not.

Shycreations has has beautiful bantam Cochins and silkies. I am not sure about other banty breeders up there.

If she isn't available, I have a cross beaked gal who I am considering bringing in and getting her use to diapers. The last frizzle rooster found a great home as a house chicken. They are so very happy. They usually wake him up though as they, as a household, get up 430 ish. =) My cross beaked one probably won't be very big as i believe she is a marans/silkie mix. But she's growing and I monitor her to make sure her crop is full. She just needs mash and she can't peck like normal chickens.

I used an old dog diaper for the frizzle while he was inside. Not quite the same but I just never seemed to have time to make him some proper diapers.

Just have to make sure I'm not stepping on Wendell's chickenfest but I was thinking May.

A crippled chicken isn't going to work around these parts as I have the weirdest and sometimes meanest flock of all (although they have been much nicer in the past two years.) . Today I pulled my HUGE roo out of a nest box by his tail and my initial thought was that he might be eating eggs, but no, he was just checking out the situation and was a bit miffed at my intrusion.

Hahahaha... poor guy. Is he still a nice roo?
