LOL. Looks good! And you have trees!
Ya about 1/4 of what was here 5 years ago. Remember then we got that freak 4' snow storm in, like, May? That took half of them. Then came the beetles, then county fire mitigation, then some had to come down to fence the whole property line. At least there's still enough to keep the wind at bay, and enough firewood to build the Taj Mahal.

And at least we can get out of the driveway now.

Well, we didn't get the wind, but it is 10 degrees at the moment and I am off to go plug in those heated waterers as well........ I thought tonight was supposed to be the cold one! Oh well.
Oh yes, I discovered this morning those heated water buckets only work if they're plugged in

It must be warmer under the heat lamp than under mommy 'cause all the babies abandoned her.

Welcome!!  I grew up in Longmont, now live in Denver proper.  How many birds does Longmont allow?  Do they have the standard restrictions on chickens or something special?  I ask because my sister is moving back to Longmont in the next few years and I hope to convince her she needs chickens!

I've been told Longmont allows 4 chickens. But when I filled out my 'Backyard Hens' permit, it didn't list a number! No roosters allowed, though.

It's windy here! Yesterday my hubby and I were still working on the garden.New house, building the garden from scratch this year. We have the fence up, the raised beds built, the dirt moved in, and we put up plastic around the whole exterior of the garden as a wind break. So far none has come off yet. I tried to get everything put away or tied down. Sure glad I did, the winds are whipping here.
I also moved the baby chicks from my laundry room to the garage. So worried about them, but boy it sure took me 2 hours to clean the laundry room from all of the dust, that I don't want to move them back any time soon. I have 2 heat lamps going in the garage. I have 2 girls that are 2 months old, and 3 marans that are 5 weeks old. Our new chicken run area is almost done. Fence is up, bird netting is up too, just need to sweak a few more spots before we move the coop inside.
Last night I got 3 new bee hives. I think I will spend today inside building them.

I went out this morning to see if any shognles stayed on the shed and to check on the poults....Shingles still on but the edges are flapping in the "breeze". The temp inside the turkey brooder was 60F, and they were running around inside, not even going under the heat lamp. I guess they are tougher than what is commonly repeated.....

I hear so many conflicting things about turkey hardiness. On the one hand I'd expect more hardiness from heritage breeds, but I've also read that they still seem to look for ways to die. Ours have gotten attached to one of our two goslings for some reason, they all pile up on it.

Just came in from feeding the horses, mucking stalls and checking on the chicks. We just don't have room in this old farmhouse for a brooder so my 1 week old chicks are in the garage. They are all running around having fun and they seem to be plenty warm under the heat lamp. Wind isn't too bad in Canon. Just getting a little grapple now.
