ScottLovelandCO, nice looking chicks! What is the breed list again? They look really good, nice and fluffy and healthy.
This was just a barnyard mix that I got from a local. They are all Ameraucana crosses as that is his only roo. There are two that I believe to be crossed with the barred rock hens. They are the black ones with the yellow on their heads and chest. There are a couple of brown ones that I think could possibly be crossed with the partridge rock. I think one of the yellowish/brownish is crossed with a RIR, a couple of easter eggers, three turken crosses (these I know for sure!!!), possibly a couple black australorps, and a couple either cochin or brahma crosses (the yellow ones with feathered feet). I think I will be able to tell more when they start showing colors and getting more feathers.

WOW! 5 pages in one evening! It's getting hard to keep up! Lots of photos of cute chicks!

Mayah: Total bummer about your chicks.

Where did you get your shipped eggs from? This was my first experience using MyPetChickens for fertile hatching eggs. I must say, after spending $50 on a dozen eggs, that I am highly disappointed with the quality of the eggs. All of the eggs were so porous, I thought I was looking at a piece of pumice. I went ahead and put them into the incubator because I had a batch of copper marans that I got locally. I must say though, that I am not very optimistic about any of them hatching.
I got my shipped Dominique eggs from Heaven Roberts and Rhonda Jones out of Oregon. They shipped us a total of 55 eggs in two shipments. only one broken egg in the first shipment, but the second had some box damage, and 6 were broken in that box. Still, 47 out of 48 developing on day 7 isn't bad.

A friend took down his greenhouse and brought over some usable clear corregated panels and some usable scrap OSB. Also some good dimensional lumber. Got to love scrap!

Picked up an old tiller from another friend. It hasn't run in MANY years.....Its an old Troy Bilt. Very heavy. Took most of the carburator apart and got them working again, and soaked other parts in penetrating oil. If all works out, we should be tilling again soon.

We got 12 dom eggs yesterday from 12 hens. One was a fart egg, but we count it anyway. First time for 12/12.

The oults are doing great, and want to be out and about. We let them out o the brooder coop while we are outside and the weather is good. They still struggle with knowing that the ramp can be used to go up as well as come down....Turkeys! sometimes not the most intelligent birds......

1/2 inch of snow at the house this morning and no wind. It was very pleasant. Good hunting weather. Too bad I have to be at work.

When I was researching for roofing I saw that Home Depot sells suntuf panels and another brand that is almost half the cost. But I wanted mine to last, so I went with the suntuf stuff so I hope they'll be nice and clear for a long time!

We do have a slant to our run roof of about a 1ft difference from front to back, so I'm hoping that will be enough to mitigate any snow build up...

Did you try drilling through your panels to secure them in place?

So there's a re-store habitat for humanity store here in the springs. Probably have them all over. I go there from time to time to look for odds and ends. I picked up a bunch of screws that have rubber washers attached. They're great for using to secure the panels to wood. If you buy them at home depot they're kind of expensive, but you can probably just make your own by going to the screw isle and looking for rubber washers and metal ones to back them up. Should work as well - they'll prevent water from getting through the holes. If I recall I pre-drilled all the holes through the panels. Not sure if that's necessary or not.

Please explain a 'fart egg'
A tiny egg. Sometimes laid by a newly laying pullet, other times it can be an anomally when an egg forms and there is no yolk. Sometimes a piece of the reproductive lining sloughs off and a shell and white form around it. We have gotten two of these in the last coule of weeks, and neither have had yolks. Beth wants me to blow them out and keep them. They each measure about 1 inch long.
