Got everything done except for working on the car. But i did get the Suburban sold..... It took 8 wheel barrow loads to emplty the coop. Only took 5 giant bags of leaves to cover the coop floor 6 inches deep. One hen was on a nest the whole time, another kept squawking around yelling at me for disturbing them. Oh well.
Got the little pear tree protected with bird netting. The posts are in for the apple tree, but I don't know if I have enough left to cover it. We'll see this next week.

Got a delivery to make and them back home to relax for the rest of the day.

My chicks that I put in the coop this morning are loving it. This morning was so cool, but now they are HOT! They keep going up in the coop. Caught them panting a few times. They are coming out and drinking occasionally. Is there anything I should do? Or will they just become acclimated to the temp changes?

Bob and I just talked this through, and probably not but you could ask the nipple manufacturer, and if the upper nipple(s) drip there are restricted fittings or you can even buy a very low pressure regulator. Sorry it isn't a more definite answer, we have not used this type of system yet so no experience with it.

That's what I was thinking, just try it and see! Thanks!

Wendell, you are way ahead of me, as I didn't get squat done today. Why are they called wheelbarrows anyway? Wouldn't it be a 1/2 barrel with a wheel on it? Hence a wheelbarrel? Just askin'

I always get curious about word origins so you got me wondering...

http://www.etymonline.com/index.php?term=barrow
"vehicle for carrying a load," c.1300, barewe, probably from an unrecorded Old English *bearwe "basket, barrow," from beran "to bear, to carry" (see bear (v.)). The original had no wheel and required two persons to carry it."

LOL

A "barrow" is an old english term meaning a form of carrying or conveyance. An hand-barrow is meant to be carried by two people. one on each end with two handles on either end. A wheel-barrow generally has only one wheel in front and two handles in back.

They will get acclimated but if they need shade in the run, make them a lean-to or hang a piece of shade cloth so they can be out of the coop and it will stay cleaner.

Yeah - there is a reason Ashdoes' tagline is, "The coop and run are never done" LOL - with chickens there are always temporary modifications, make-do fixes, and last minute, "Doh!" - I am getting ready to try and fabricate a coop for the Egyptian Fayoumis so I can move them outside, they are in the new coop and they just need more room and their own area. They mature so fast. With 10 of them in the pen with maybe 6 Cuckoo Marans pullets, they are definitely ruling the roost, and one of the cockerels has decided it is fun to fly out of their pen and into the one next door where the Silkie chicks are. Going to try a frame of 2x4s and walls of a stack of cedar fence pickets. Bob says I'm a girl and no way I can do it myself. He might be right, but I'm going to try!

The coop is slow going.... dh is dealing with a major bout of depression( very unusual for him), making motivation tricky. My RA is flaring up so bad, I have limited mobility. But we've made progress on the egg boxes!
