No takers on the egg cartons, really?  Interesting.  It's like I'm being ditched in advance.

Your not being ditched, I live closer but work, and am working on my meatys right now when I'm home, that and finishing my never ending chicken coop!

Lol...that's how I feel about my darn 'pigs with wings' pekings..  I've been trying very hard for a very long time to find them a nice home where peking duck is not on the menu.  =)

You're just too far away for me or I'd take you up on it.  I can always use extra cartons although lately, I've been using ziplock bags to give eggs away in.

Ffor a first timer this is a pretty interesting thing to do. I have one pip and 3 rocking eggs now.

Sure wish I had a webcam so others could view this. Its pretty exciting. I just inched a wet towel in there, i am trying to get the bator up to 55% humidity. It is pretty stable at 48% at the moment, but want it to be correct to give them the best chance I can. lots of peeping going on in there, its driving my dog nuts trying to figure out where the peeping is coming from. Now I just need to get the brooder set up in the basement again. These chicks will be prizez for games at the chickenfest on the 18th. i wasnt expecting this until late Sundyay or Monday morning.
Cool! Looking forward to pictures!

I broke down and picked up the two ducklings. They are sitting in a dog crate in the coop. Now what?

How old are they? The ones I got with the chicks are in the same brooder, but at a few days of age I don't anticipate issues right away. They will eventually need deeper water, as I understand it they are somewhat messier than chicks, as far as introducing them to your flock I would think standard protocol applies - separated by wire or free ranging together with treats, watch for squabbles. I think ducks usually like a house on ground level, but since I just got the first two ducklings I've ever had I happily defer to those who have actually raised them :)

Anyone have a local source for Comfrey seeds? I can order but thought I'd ask here first.

Congrats to all hatching!

Made good progress on the coop today but also hit a sprinkler line while trenching in the hardware cloth so have that little add-on project to complete tomorrow along with everything else.

They're already fun. My chooks range from 5 weeks to 3 years. I put their crate in between the broody pen and the rest of the coop in the barn. Momma bird is going nuts. They seem to like the pellets plus they have a water bowl and the previous owners gave me a big bag of frozen peas. When the big girls go out to free range tomorrow I'll let the pekings out to explore. The puppy is having a field day as well

How old are the ducklings? How big are they? Fully feathered?

It occurred to me that you wanted the ducks age, not the chooks

while I was out feeding for the 4th time in as many hours. The ducklings are supposedly 5 weeks old. That makes sense because they still have some yellow in them, but appear to be turning white as we speak. You weren't kidding about how messy they are either. Oh well, everybody knows sleep causes cancer
