Hi Everyone,

This is my very first post. Been lurking and reading for a while though. I'm new to chickens...built a coop this summer and trying to survive the winter with 4 chickens- 2 lt. brahmas and 2 mixed aracaunas....been interesting in freezing Georgetown. So far so good. We have only run the heat lamp 4 days this winter so far. Chicks were born in June- still hoping to see eggs soon. Just wanted to day hello!

Welcome and watch out for next week!

We are supposed to get some wicked overnight lows.

I haven't had to run heat or light out to the ducks, but when it gets below 15 at night I worry about the quail. At least the light keeps their waterer from freezing solid

Hiya Georgetown!!! What a beautiful little town! Kathy Sabine on channel 9 said that we can expect a little snow this weekend but not the arctic cold they were calling for. YAY!!!!!!
But the mountains always get it worse than down here. I would love to live up there but the winters would kill me.

Welcome to our Colorado thread and

Thanks for the welcome! I have 2 waterers and change them before and after work....they are usually frozen solid! I keep looking for frostbitten combs or lethargic birds...so far we've been lucky. What do others do when it gets awful outside? I was trying to attach a picture from Christmas day...not sure how to do that.

Thanks! Stacy
