Colorado

The utility wire is alot tougher than chicken wire. Yes, the holes are bigger but anything that could squeeze through it wouldn't be big enough to harm a 7 pound bird, much less 11 of them.

yes I was thinking about hatching some next year in my homemade bator. And I want to know if the eggs will fit in open egg cartons tilted in the inqubator?

Yes they will. They are smaller than regular chicken eggs, but I've hatched them in the standard chicken egg turner, so they should fit in the cartons.

Except a weasel, but I don't think we have them in CO, do we? Well I take that back, there is an endangered ferret in CO but don't think it's in the Colorado Springs area. Nearest population I've read about is Wolf Creek, and they prefer areas dense with prairie dog tunnels, which they use.

Well some time last night the raccoon returned. He/She tore up my bird netting and entered the run. We don't leave any food out over night, and everyone was locked up tight (including my male turkey). But I can tell from the size of the opening that it was a smaller animal (definitely not the bear). Nothing was harmed or even moved. But now I am worried. 2 nights in a row, means we have to change something.
SO now... this morning we are trying to decide what to do. I am thinking recovering the whole top of the run with something stronger, hubby is suggesting we go the electric fencing route. Any suggestions?
Here at my place repeat intruders are definitely not welcome. I came home from vacation to find a skunk had taken up residency near my coop somewhere. I have failed twice so far to catch that sucker. Once caught, it will not stick around for very long.. I am all for trap and get rid of one way or another. My neighbors have caught a few raccoons this summer already. I haven't seen ay at my place but the signs of their presence are down by the creek not 100 feet away. The traps have been set and I am waiting.

I have weasels at my altitude, aka- ermine. Beautiful little beasties they are, but will wipe out a flock in minutes.
Wendy, sounds like the best option is to keep them from climbing the fence in the first place......
I would use the electric fencing because to cover your run with something raccoon proof is a heroic task, not to mention heavy and then add the snow load....... IMHO

Hello everyone! Busy week/weekend here, sounds like the varmits are out in big numbers! Make sure the bear doesn't have cubs, if so, stay a safe distance away, like in the house! LOL Stay safe! We have rain clouds gathering again, also cooler today here. Hope all are having cooler weather too!
