It'll be a little hard to find chicks this time of year. But starting in Feb/Mar they will be everywhere, and finding EEs is pretty easy at that point.

I wish them safe travels and hope it is a pleasant visit - it can be tough having family stay with you in your home, I think, even when you really like them and get along famously.  Field trips, a stash of non-controversial movies, and needing pictures of the chickens all might help ...

Any news on your greenhouse project?

I poured the foundatio for the greenhouse last saturday durring the wind. That was one experience i can do without for a while. This weekend i will start moving bricks and possibly mortorimg them in. It will take a while. 400 are going into place.

Hi all! I'm a total newbie here and pre-chicken mama. After years of wanting to own chickens, we've finally bought a lovely home with a backyard to house them in. I'm up in Loveland and although I have many backyard chicken owning friends, lol, none of them are local, so I don't know where to look to buy some baby chicks. I've been on craigslist for a month now, in search of some EE pullets. We would like to raise them from babies and construct a coop ourselves, as I homeschool our three kids and think it would be an awesome learning experience. Does anyone know where I could find a couple? We were thinking of 4-5 to start. Thanks for all your help!

Feeder Supply in FC sells chicks year round. They are right down the street from Ranch Way if you know where that is. I bought chicks the week of Xmas last year from them and they have over 150 to choose from. I ended up with SLW, EE, BR and brown leghorns. They buy Privett chicks. Their EEs are all over the place. Plain brown with black points, blue, grey, black and red, white with black points, blue and brown... Most with beards and muffs, some without. I've had brown and blue eggs but mostly medium green ones. Chicks come in on Friday. Wait until Monday to pick them up so if any are weak and dying, you won't take those home. Call and see what she has coming in and if you want something different, she'll order them in if they are hatching them this time of year. She won't get chicks in Thanksgiving week and the last 2 weeks of December.

The best part of starting them now is they will be laying by May when most people are just starting with new chicks.

NoCo sells them but he stock show IS coming up and you could get some chicks or pullets/Roos from breeders.

Hi All,
I have been thinking all day about my two pet turkeys. With the cold, snowy weather coming, how can I make them take shelter? They like sleeping in a tree or on top of the chickens coop. How can I make them go into the dog house I have for them? I think the tom is about 45 lbs and the hen is 30 ish. I have been thinking about throwing a tarp up over the tree area. Will they be ok out in the elements? I think my tom turkey lost part of his snog recently. I wondered if it was from frostbite. I have never gone through a winter with turkeys before. I am open to any suggestions or advice. I keep googling turkey shelters.
