Colorado

I understand your nervousness. If it is any comfort, I have chicks hatched New Year's Day and the following Saturday in a brooder out in the coop, they were out there when it was -6 degrees overnight, and all are fine so far. They have a heat lamp and are in a large plastic storage container for a brooder. Total of 17 chicks. 12 from the keeper out on the Mesa, whose flock is mainly production Reds, and 5 from Mayah's eggs.

Is the time of year, many breeders have their pens and birds set up. Horse breeding is the same, if you show, you want your foals born in late January or February, that way they have an advantage (size) over foals born later in the year. Had two eggs today, yay! No cereal for breakfast tomorow. :D Wishing everyone a great hatching/breeding season. I will be doing vicariously (sp) for now...........

I know.....
Everything was good in the breeding pens this afternoon. The hens haven't fully accepted the cockerels as "Their men" yet. That will happen. The hens weren't responding to the "I found good stuff to eat" calls from either cockerel. Isaac looks better today.

Cutting back my flock a bit - after much discussion and observation, I've come to the conclusion I have one too many breeds here, especially if I want to get some Leghorns down the road. I am posting here and on the Colorado Chickens FB group that I want to find a good home for all my Egytian Fayoumis, and to any member of this or the FB group they are free. There is an adult pair who will be a year old March 10th, a Fayoumi x Sussex pullet who us just about at POL, a pure Fayoumi pullet who should be at POL next month, and 2 young cockerels who are about 8 weeks of age. I would like someone to take all of them as a package deal if possible.

They are healthy, great foragers, easy on the feed bill, and the hen who is with the male is laying 3-5 eggs a week. Send me a PM if you are interested.

I feel so bad for the boys when they try and bribe the girls to come closer with the "I found food" noise. My girls don't fall for it anymore, or are not interested right now........ LOL :D

Pozee, I had good luck on CL last month. You can always deliver them if you are not sure, and of course charge a small fee for them, and a breeding pair or trio seems to be what some people are looking for. I have a few extra boys here too, may offer them with a pullet as there doesn't seem to be much interest in roosters only.

Hey guys,
I was thinking of doing a small hatching with my kids. Do you guys have any advise on an incubator & where to get hatching eggs? I'm thinking no more than a dozen or half dozen. I'd probably only keep a pair or three. Would anyone want to take the leftovers (if it's a good hatch!
