Colorado

I will have to look up what wattage of heat emitter I bought last spring, I wanted to use if for day old chicks, but was not impressed with it. It may work better for fully feathered birds. I purchased it on line from Amazon.

Glad you got your Sportsman! I would never have thought to use a room humidifier, ever, glad you have figured out your humidity and temps.

Fellow coloradian here, first town east of the divide on I-70. My flock of 9, soon to increase have been doing great, not laying at all this winter, but in the canyon they don't get the light thy want. Fixed that problem, hoping for some eggs in the next few weeks.

Disappointed the meetup didn't work out to pick up the bantam olive egger eggs. :(
I'll be in 3 states in the next few weeks so maybe I'll be able to find something somewhere. ;)

LOL Wendy I know how you feel, it doesn't matter how many times you hatch, every one is exciting :) Some are harder of course, if things don't go well, but you learn from every one.

I wound up with 17 chicks for sure, there's a Cream Legbar with its lid off that still might make it but it seems to have lost the strength to finish hatching, and this morning its breathing seems to take more effort, so I don't think it will. A cross bred from our coop didn't make it either, when it finally pushed free of the shell some of the yolk had not finished absorbing and it is bleeding from the umbilicus, very sad.

Still, there are 4 Cream Legbars from under a broody, 3 males and 1 female, 2 Light Blue Ameraucana, 3 EEs, and 8 Silkies, a hatch I'm very happy with all things considered. I beat the 25% rate for eggs shipped to this elevation. Each of the broodies still has a few eggs which may hatch, although I'm not holding out much hope. There are 3 Oprington eggs under a pair of hens, 2 more Legbar eggs under the one that hatched the 4, and 4 more Silkie eggs under the pair that hatched 2 Silkies in the other pen. Bob will be looking sharp all day for little heads poking out, and listening for little peeps :)

I need to make more room in the brooder, so I'm offering the older chicks - 11 Silkies and 2 Egyptian Fayoumis aged 1-2 weeks plus a few days - all 13 for $75 if I can get them sold by the weekend. Going to update my BST ad now, and already updated the Craigslist ad.

Congrats to everyone with new hatchlings! It is exciting, when you hatch a big percentage of shipped eggs, that is when you realize it is not all on you, but the way the eggs where packed, if they are indeed fertile, and how fresh they are! :D

If anyone wants to add Jersey Giants to their flock, I know a great breeder in Texas..........

I just realized I said my Legbars were 3 males and 1 female, it is the opposite - 3 females and 1 male LOL - and he already has that haughty, "Don't hate me because I'm beautiful" stance, nice color for a hatchling, I'm looking forward to seeing how he grows.

I know one of our members wanted Black JGs last year, but not sure if she hatches, or if she would want me to hatch some for her. I have never had them so I really know very little about them, how do you like yours Suncatcher? How are their temperaments, productivity, attitude with the rest of the flock?
