Colorado

Glad you are having a fun hatch, I am too :) I have eggs due to hatch tomorrow that have decided to hatch today - have 17 out, 2 zipped and ready to come out, and 2 more pipped :) These are Colorado Mayahns and eggs from my own flock, some Silkies, some RIR and some RIR crosses (Speckled Sussex or Silver Laced Wyandotte under RIR male). You are awesome to have made a video of a hatch! That takes some patience!

We have a BCM mix out now. That's 5 out and 2 pipped (that I can see). Ours are supposed to hatch tomorrow too. I am looking forward to the rest of the silkies hatching. The one that has hatched so far says S-2 on it. What colors are possible for those?

We were lucky that egg hatched really quickly.

S2 is a Black split to Lav male, over a White, Splash, Porcelain, or mismarked Partridge (Buff with dark head). I have mainly hatched Splash from that pen, with one that is almost Lavender but has some buff-colored leakage and a bit larger than I would like, but I still have her :)

I went out to check on my broody silkie when I got home this evening and heard some cheeping from under her. She had hatched one of the eggs and there was one more pipped. The only egg that had not pipped or hatched was her own egg. The one that hatched is a australorp covered by my leghorn mix. the pipped one is a SS covered by my leghorn. I have 8 more of these combinations in my brooder that hatched last weekend.
This evening I set 19 Dominique eggs from wsmith from windy ridge dominiques and 15 easter egger silkie combinations. And also 1 cochin egg. Now I just need to figure out a way to get rid of some of these chicks. LOL Hatching sure is addicting.
The original 8 from last weekend are posted on craigslist. no takers yet. They should be good layers and good sized roos for processing. I may end up keeping the roos and processing them in four months or so. I just don't know which ones they are yet.
My one little quail hatched Wednesday evening. He sure is a lonely little guy right now. I didn't want to put him in with the chickens as it may get trampled. I might get him some friends tomorrow.

I am awaiting the video from the hatch.

So, we put 15 Cream Legbar eggs in the incubator on the fourth. Today I candled, just putting the flashlight on top of the egg, not picking it up. One egg had zero development...all the rest are perfectly veining and moving. We're super excited with that, and I really hope we have a great hatch. Eleven more days, feels like forever.

So how does it work if you breed a austrolorp with an EE will you get a chicken that lays blue eggs and as frequently as the austrolorp? or is it just randomized

Several years ago I had australorp hens and an EE rooster. The babies hatched black, looking like australorps only with pea combs. Any that hatched with straight combs laid brown eggs. However those pullets from the hatch with the pea combs laid awesome olive colored eggs. Of course, it is random because of the EE egg color being unknown. They were great layers, but probably not a good as pure australorps.

I checked on my broody silkie this morning. All her eggs have hatched now. She did a great job at hatching these little ones. She has One leghorn australorp mix. One leghorn speckled sussex mix and a silkie. Sure are cute little buggers with their momma. I am going to let her raise them for a while while trying to determine which ones may be roos.
