Samsr, that was a close one and I am so glad that you are on the mend! I have heard that quail do not like to be integrated and they make chicken politics seem like nothing. I am so sorry that it did not go well and your kids had to deal with it

Did you guys see the post about the foil increasing broodiness? Interesting!

Thanks for pointing that out. It is very interesting.
I have a broody bantam I'll put some aluminium over her nest. I have a broody naked neck I am trying to break, without much success.
She has been in 'jail' for two and a half days and I let her out this morning and she marched right to the nesting boxes and puffed up. She didn't even go in the yard for a scratch or anything.

Well, just use her to raise some heritage meaties..... never can tell when those extra chicks can be great replacements or tasty dinners.

Last year on April 1 they announced a joint effort with Facebook..... Funny this was also announced on April fools day......

you think?
I have killed birds that I didn't raise, but I haven't killed my own. I'm not sure I can do it and I don't need any more birds. I have some hatchery birds coming tomorrow (I hope) and I want to raise them myself. The birds I have raised by broodies are hard to handle. I want to have a flock I can pick up and inspect easily. I am sick of chasing birds.

That is the idea. You are not raising them and they are not pets, therefore, they make better meaties in your brain and they are homegrown phenoms! Just a thought for a sustainable flock....
