Yeah, that's a bit different situation... sorry it happened that way for you. I may be in the same boat when I'm able to tell them all apart in a couple of months... I ordered 8 each of 4 breeds which included one cockerel each for breeding. They're a little over a week old right now, and I have no idea how to tell them apart. Except for one chick that died a couple of days ago, and a couple of others that seem to be "runts," they are growing like weeds! I find it curious that the dead bird and the runts are all from the same breed (white wyandottes)... I plan to notify the hatchery so they can document for their breeder. Which hatchery did you purchase from? Just curious... I bought from Murray McMurray.

Murray McMurray for one shipped group of 17, all silver grey dorkings and salmon faverolles died by wk2 I went up to kiowa's feed store to get other pullets to replace those- those chicks were from Ideal and Cackle..

Even chickens that had previously put themselves to bed, may decide every now and then to stay out. I had to put 5 two month olds, and four 4 month old back in their stall last night. Apparently they thought it would be fun to have a sleepover under the stars.

Have more than that- I had bought the pullets to replace my current flock of 12- 4 yr old hens... Had gotten 2-3 of several breeds to see which I liked, which is the best for me.. But several of the breeds I now only have 1 pullet in so can't get a good handle on the breed with only observing one bird.. Had really wanted the Americans- ended up with 2 very interestingly colored cockerels- one who's growing great, the other who's been smaller and slower since arrival ..
Bummer. I had 4 roosters out of 20 from Meyer hatchery. That reminds me, I need to call them for a credit. I love my Easter Eggers/americaunas/olive eggers. I think they are my favorite breed. Everyone I have had lays well, is not overly friendly, and I love how they all look so different and lay different colored eggs. Naked Necks are my other favorite, oh and Wellsummers too.

He's beautiful. Wish I had room for him.
Yes really pretty , is too bad he has to go, by Monday if no body want hims he is going to the pot.
Did you move jet?
I manage to purchase a dexter heifer,, well she will be home in September but at least is mine, an she is A2 A2:), are you looking for the cow jet or not?

I candled them. I have no idea what I was looking at. I could see dark on the bottom and light in the top, where the air sack is. The big end. The pointy end was all dark. They were all the same, so I guess they are all good or all bad.

Sounds like a positive thing. Cold, foggy and I am eating fresh rhubarb cake because I was chilled from being in the garden planting things and raking.
Guess I'll sunbathe tomorrow.....

She is just a baby one, I know I have at least a year and half to wait unit I can get some milk but I am happy because I really want a dairy line and the A2 is a supper bonus and the other thing I like is that she is in FC so I can go visit her.

We move next weekend. I want to start looking for a cow asap but I think DH wants to wait awhile. We'll have to at least wait and see how our finances go since we need to buy all new appliances, some furniture, and some repairs to the house first.

Sounds good! That means there is something in there. At this stage if you found an all light one, that would mean it didn't have a chick in it.

I'd love to get the info of where you bought her. A2 is great!
