Here are a couple of pics if the greenhouse/shed. It does look a bit different now. All the windows are in and trimed out and 90% of the exterior sheeting is also on. I used the 4x8 she

ets of shed siding. It held 45degrees in it last night. Needless to say i still need to insulate so it will hold temp a bit better.

It has been quiet here. I really appreciate the effort to keep this thread going. This is a great touchstone for me, so thanks everyone for posting.

50 chickens and no eggs? I would be so bummed. I can't wait to hear what you learn from your detective work. Please let us know!
I have 30 chickens and I am getting about 12 or 13 eggs a day. I have about 9 birds who are molting and 2 who are just at the age I would expect them to lay. So, this years pullets are doing a great job. The 2 birds who are 5 months and looking like they may start laying soon are 2 'domineggers' I got eggs from Wendell, a BYC memeber. They are beautiful birds. I know Wendell selects his Dominiques for winter laying. So it will be interesting to see if these birds carry that trait.

Oh, I have a gun question. I wonder if someone here can help with? We have a really bad rabbit problem and my husband wants to try to shoot the rabbits. We know we won't get rid of them. We just want to knock the numbers back.
We live in Boulder County on 2 1/2 acres. Does anyone know if it is legal for us to shoot rabbits here? I can't find any answers on the County website. Thanks.

That would first off be a state thing= small game license, and then I think I would just call the Sheriff's office and ask. I know that we can shoot on our property up here, but there are safety restrictions. A pellet gun would do the trick.. You could also ask them where the information is written down..... especially if you do not like the answer that they give you....

So obviously we shouldn't be shooting them until we learn. He is English and has never shot a gun, never even held a gun. I have shot a .22 a few times, but not for years.
A pellet gun seems a logical place to start. I just want to make sure we kill the rabbits if we are going to shoot them, not just maim them. My neighbor is poisoning them, and that just seems horrible.

Glad to see that everyone is out enjoying/ working in the beautiful weather. I was down at the HS State Cross Country meet in CS yesterday and it was fun. My kiddo ran well and had a great time and that is what counts.
So, I finished processing the extra quail. I would have done them sooner but my neighbor wanted to learn how and so we had an extra roo and extra quail day on Friday and we taught one more person how to process. I made a quail size killing cone out of a water bottle and that works well. (Graphic content next FYI) I like the killing cone because they bleed out. I did just wring the neck of one of the smaller quail but then when you clean it, there is much more blood in the body and so even though they are small, I will still use a cone.
My neighbor's roos were very small at 3 months, could be the feed or the breed, whatever- but my two year roo, whom no one likes in the flock and he is rough on the girls, was huge. I should weigh him for grins.

8 lbs! He is 8 lbs dressed out. In the oven, low and slow cooking, stewing and generally yummifying!

I need help sexing the last 4 muscovy ducks I got a couple weeks ago. They are supposed to be 5 months old. And it seems like I can't upload picts again today from my cell phone. Dang it.

We use a regular BB gun to kill the cottontails that take over our property every Spring. We have a sight on it, making it easier. One hit to the head does the job.

A Mtn Mutt! Seriously, just a backyard mix. You should see his Daddy (also a Mutt.) I have an upcoming Roo from the same Daddy and I hope he is nicer to the girls. So far, he is not crowing yet, just growing at 7 months and looks promising. It is windy again and so I am in from splitting wood.
