Quote: I think Mercks Veternary Manual is a good source of information. There may be a way to keep some of your chickens and agree you should wait for them to give you the right information and instructions. Did any of your chickens have the swollen wattles? I think I read that is a symptom.

You could always treat them until they are breeding age, and then set some eggs from them, if it can't be passed along via a hatching egg. Just a thought, this way you could continue with your breeding program.........

Can you open the coop to sunlight, I did read this is a great way to sanitize via the suns rays. Once cleaned it should be left empty for at least two weeks.

Well, this goes a long with how my day has been...the woman that left me a message was wrong, it's Meraks, not fowl Cholera. Just as bad, in my opinion. The doc I spoke with wasn't sure why she said that, thinks she was just guessing after reading the report.

So sorry to hear about your problems Ash... It's really tough when there seems to be set-back after set-back... I hope that things work out for you one way or another. If I had silkies, I'd offer to give you some as replacements after the dust settles, but all I have are LF...

Rob and I talked, and decided we'll just have a closed flock. I can't imagine not having chickens running around, not after all the work we put into finding them. We'll be talking to the csu people about how to re-start our flock once we move, if hatching babies in another location will mean they'll be disease free or not.
I was really looking forward to breeding these guys.

wow Ash, so sorry for all of this added stress and worry and to hear that your flock. If there is anything the board can do to help, please let us know. We are here if you need us.

Oh geez Ash. I'm sorry to hear it is Marek's. At least you don't have to cull your whole flock, and you could still sell hatching eggs since it doesn't transfer to the egg. You'd just have to be careful about your biosecurity into the house so you don't track it in and then wrap the eggs in infected material.

I think we're going to worm our birds. I try to do natural techniques but I saw a couple foamy yellow poops today. Not worth the risk so I'll be going to Big R tomorrow. I also need to remember to pick up some Sweet PDZ.

My friend's chicken that had the paralyzed legs finally died today. There are so many things that could cause paralysis who knows what the cause was. Good news is we got her separated right away and no one else has shown any signs.

So what's your theory on how it got introduced? None of my birds are vaccinated as I suspect most backyard flocks are not. Are the vets recommending that all new chicks be vaccinated? How do you get in front of the problem? We all have migrating bird issues plus the resident magpies so some of the risk factors are out of our control.

CSU giving you an incorrect diagnosis is inexcusable. I've had my issues with the large animal side and don't have a tremendous comfort level with them.
