Yep, this hatching bug is catching!!  It is like "must see" TV, but way more exciting!    Hmm, on the shed for incubating?  The room where you place the incubator has to be around the same temp, no wild temp swings from all I have read.

Yea that is why I have been questioning if that will work or not. Gonna plug in the incubators to test, throw a hygrometer into the shed and check it out and see what the temp fluctuations are. Gonna see if there is somewhere else I can do this. The space we had last year when we got our day old chicks has been converted into an indoor grow for cactus, herbs, seeds, etc.

Oh gosh, how cute and so exciting, I am sure you got no sleep last night. Congrats on your first hatching! Does he/she have a name yet?

Yay Uzi!!! Congrats! So amazing to see a chick make its way out of the shell! Hoping your second is out by the time you get home from work!

Hmmm, not sure on the Janoel and temp spikes. What day are you on, sometimes it is ok, sometimes it isn't.

Uzi,
I have some chicks coming this week and I ordered extras in your little guy needs a friend or two.

all will be well and you will have 4 little chicks when you get home.

Thanks! Definitely wouldn't have thought I could do something like this without everyone here and your willingness to share what you know. I have a pool of names to pick from, but I'm waiting to see what sex they are before naming them. I have pretty good hopes for the second chick popping out soon-ish, but I don't think the other 2 made it past lockdown. They didn't look very developed. But, you never know, so I'm still giving them until Wednesday. :)

Recently, on the Swedish Flower Hen thread, someone said he keeps the incubator in the bathroom, which is a smaller area to keep up humidity. I thought that was pretty smart. We happen to have a huge, ridiculous waste of water, garden tub and it's the perfect spot for the incubator. Some people even keep them in closets. I bet there's a tiny space somewhere in your house.

Congrats Uzi! Alright, back out into the weather....

Thanks!

I'm only on day 3..

Congrats uzi!!!
Thanks! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you with this newest batch!

And I just got a surprise text from my mom about 20mins ago:

A second chick hatched while her and my dad were out to lunch! I don't know yet if it was the one who pipped last night or a surprise from one of the eggs I didn't think would hatch, but I'll find out when I get home!

This is making it really hard to stay at work today! :D

Wow, a fifty percent hatch with your first try!

Yeah we have one tub in the house with the only shower in it as well. We are thinking about putting the incubator on top of the wood burning stove in the living room. Obviously as long as we are not burning a fire ;). I have two incubators, I was thinking if having the one that has the fan and the turner be the hatching incubator and the other one could be used as a brooder maybe for the first few days? Ideas on having the two incubators? The one with turner holds 42 eggs, don't want to do much more than that as we don't have space for a bunch. One is farm innovators no auto turner. I will have a bin brooder or hopefully a broody who could help, just depends on timing of it all. Obviously if we have a broody, I would much rather give her a clutch and see how serious she is and go from there. I think my one cornish that tends to be broody more than anyone else, might be beginning again. Moved her off golf balls three times today.
