Colorado

My excitement for the day: I was heading down the driveway this afternoon and there was a bear running through the lower mare pasture. Chickens were up but the pens are far from being bear proof. I should of been more concerned with my food truck with the windows rolled down. He didn't stop in. First bear sighting in the 22 years I've lived here.

That's is exciting. When we lived in North Boulder, off Lee Hill and Broadway, we would see bear pretty often. We lived on open space and saw bear and coyote and mountain lions, tons of deer too.
Not safe for chickens, or cats, or small dogs where we lived. The neighborhood called cat doors/flaps 'vending machines'.

Not good because the bears are starving by the way. This summer has been the WORST EVER for bear problems up here. I now have my garden, coop and part of my house wrapped in bear hot wire and so do my neighbors. Bear spray at hand, guns loaded, nail mats down.... it has been very crazy. The rubber buckshot has been fired, firework mortars launched, airhorns, you name it, people have done it. Good luck, seriously!

No bear at my place this year. At least not yet. Have you ever thought about letting someone hunt bear on your property? I would be up to the challenge. At least there would be one less bear raising kain around. Que in elmer fudd and daffy duck. Weewew hunting wabbits.

Sorry, I have been gone for a few days. My sister and daughter are both selling houses and moving and getting their new places livable....so that means I am helping moving, and painting and packing...etc...I probably won't call this week, but will next week.
I would want to know what the protein and calcium % are at least before I buy that much.
Sorry if you said; is it mash, or crumbles, or pellets? My birds won't touch pellets so if it is pellet forum I won't need any more info.

It is crumbles....

Friend up Left Hand has had a bear frequenting his property and he too has wired his house and greenhouse with hot wire. We haven't seen any bear out near by the rifle range, we see deer, coyotes, raccoons and birds of prey.

Looking for a granary that sells chick starter or egg layer in bulk by like 100lbs or more at a time? Anyone know of any place that does? Please PM if you know of on

100# is only 2 bags. No one will sell that little in bulk. Every mill will sell in bulk but they will have a 500 to one ton minimum. There are people on CL who sell really small quantities ( bring your own bucket) of their blend but I would want to see an analysis. Chicken tracks out in Hudson used to sell their feed at the farmer's market.
