Just finished processing my non alpha buff orp roo. He was scrawny as heck. Have him in a stew pot for the dogs. might make 1/2 a meal for them. Forgot how much work plucking is... even dunking in 140-160* water w/dawn 3-4 times. finally gave up and skinned him. I gotta build me an auto chicken pluckin machine...

I can't remember if I read it here or somewhere else...

But has anyone had hens dropping dead off the roost at night?!

Yesterday, our 1 1/2 year old Wyandotte died in her sleep. She had been acting perfectly normal. Comb normal. Not a thing that made me thing she was unwell at all.
I looked over her body very closely, no mites, fleas or anything. No trauma.

Any ideas?

I have had a couple drop dead this year. No reason why and the rest of the flock is happy and healthy. Sometimes their little heart just cant take it.

yes, it happens for no obvious reason.

Welcome newbies!!!

My hatchery BR died at age two the same way, fine one minute, dead the next. It could be anything, heart failure or ???? Sad to see them go so quickly.

Have no idea on the feed..... but check around you might find some.

Yep, our five boys were scrawny too, but still good eating!!! Next time we will put them up a few weeks before processing, their legs had tons of muscle on them.

WS Smith on here has blue Am's in his flock, you might try sending him a PM.

Not enough time in the day..... trying to add on to the coop is no fun in this heat!
