Uzi, that pic of those two boys hating on each other, is great. I actually laughed at their stubbornness. I'm still amazed how tiny Odysseus is.

I was actually looking at those on Pinterest for ideas for next year! LOL I've been looking for pallet wood repurposing ideas since we have access to tons of them from the place where I work. Putting the wildflowers in a box with mostly potting soil definitely did wonders for their growth this year.I am one of those in towners that would love to be able to keep a roo. I however have nosy neighbors so a roo would be asking for it here.
Uzi,
If you are dealing with a lot of sand here is a thought. Now mind you it would cost some money to get started but not much each year after that. Have you looked into raised box gardening?
To keep the dirt in and the weeds down you can lay cardboard down then build a box out of 2x6 or similar material. You would have to fill the box with good dirt from a landscape supply company or something of the sort.
Personally if you have dirt good enough to get tomatoes to grow I would stick with that. The raised boxes are nice but deep rooted plants need more space and more water in them. Maybe one or two for things that are struggling in the sandy soil.
I have tried watermelon and other melons and found they just do not do well here. We don't tend to get hail that is large here so the plants grew and looked good but never had time to fruit.
I am dealing with the other end of soil issues since mine is all clay.![]()
Both of them are so stubborn, I can't believe that chickens can be like that! I'll have to get a picture of Odysseus and Sparta next to each other because she's even smaller than he is. She also went broody on me yesterday! She's barely been laying eggs for a month, but there she was last night while I was catching Richmond for her med dosage, pancaked on top of 3 eggs and 2 golf balls. It was the cutest thing ever. I was surprised that she didn't try attacking me when I took her off the nest since she was making a lot of noise about being moved. I hope she'll go broody again later when she has actual fertilized eggs to hatch. That would just kill me with cute.Uzi, that pic of those two boys hating on each other, is great. Looks like you will be in the san louis valley. You could go see the aligator farm while you are there and dont forget about the ufo outlook point. Crestone is an interesting place to say the least. Its a little hippie town where clothing is optinal in places. The museum in saguachie is interesting to go through also. I have known a rancher in that area for 20+ years. He is where i get my beef from. I know how he raises his cattle and it is very good. Enjoy the trip. Do a little more research on things to do aroud there and it will be a great trip. Enjoy.hey everybody, I'm not from colorado but I do like to visit. We are planning a birthday trip and I was wondering if anybody had any fun suggestions. we will be traveling from the Trinidad area to the Moffat/Crestone area.. I am sure we will stay in a yurt and go to the hotsprings in Moffat I just dont know what else to do. Any suggestions would be very welcome . I cant wait to visit your beautiful state again, we only made it twice this year, I hope we can fit a third trip in before too much winter weather .

Hey everybody. There is a charity raffle taking place on October 15th. Tickets are $2 each. I have donated the following prize:

A mix of the winners choice from the following types: easter egger, olive egger, super blue egg layer, welsummer, crested cream legbar, rhodebar, California grey, California white, salmon faverolle, light sussex, American bresse, and barnyard mix. Available eggs are (of course) subject to which hens are laying when the winner wants the eggs. I can flexible and offer eggs anytime between now and April.
There are other prizes, too.
To buy a ticket or learn more information, contact Michelle Colthran at [email protected], or 720-486-8122 (text is best).
Maybe a little more background would be nice. Like what is the Charity, what is the money going towards and is there a website?
