Dan I don't know, but have you checked Craigslist at all? Folks are selling pullets all over.

MKLGE we had absolutely beautiful weather here today. No wind whatsoever. YAY!!!! But I think that's going to change come tomorrow night into Saturday

Ahhh no... It can't snow this weekend. We have a coop to complete and 10 week old chicks that need to get OUT of my basement and INTO their new coop. Nope. No snow. Not happening. *Sticking fingers in ears* La-la-laAAA-dee-daaa....

Ugghhhh. Saturday's supposed to be Freezer Camp day for our 2 dozen meaties....

I was supposed to put up more fence posts yesterday, but the wind was blowing too hard, and I had to work on one of the wrecks we call cars. Car still not fixed, fence post still not set. Supposed to get REALLY cold for the next couple of days, with snow and rain. Don't like it cold, but the rain we got at the house this last week was the first substantial precip at the house in hearly 6 months. I need more.

I try not to look at the weather forecast because it just makes me sad. This weekend I have plans to put up fencing and build my chicken coop. If I had the choice of doing it in the rain or in 80 degree heat I would take the rain, but I HATE the wind.

Yup!

Looks like I will be working on the car this afternoon, with no fence building. I have to get the backyard fence done first, then start on the Chicken runs / coops. Too much fun! ONly about 65 more posts to go.

We are distributing several hundred nucs of bees at my house on Saturday...that should be fun in the snow!! Also supposed to be putting up fence and finishing the chicken coops (chicken palaces, as my husband calls them!). I'll post pictures later when they're finished.

I like bees, but not wasps or hornets. Bad things happen when I get stung...

Here are the plans of what i am doing. We have 7 acres, so space is not a factor. Only money and time factors.

This is a diagram of our yard layout. Currently it is all staked and measured. Some post holes are already dug. Included is space for an additional coop if it is ever needed. Think "controlled semi-free range". Some sort of mesh will cover the whole run area as well for hawk and owl protecion.

Here is my Hen house plan. I think it will work fine. The shelf above the roost will have a screen cover to prevent the chickens from roosting there.

Here is a drawing of our rooster pens / broody hen quarters / chicken prison. One is in the building process right now. There will be a total of 6.

We have shade issues, along with nice breezes

This will be our shade / refreshment pavillion.

We will also be collecting rain from the hen house and possibly the pavillion. Here is the plan for collection. Also on this diagram is a plan for a chicken salad bar.

And last, but not least, is our supply / work shelter. We will also move a small garden shed into the area to store items that must be indoors.

Let me know what you think.
