@uzi: whew, thank goodness you are out of the fire and back into the frying pan! I hope all your little babies will be thriving. Just when you thought you were done with the stress. Don't forget pastie butts, just in case they picked up on it. This was a good lesson for all of us (but of course Boy Scouts wouldn't need it).
That's cause they would have eaten scrambled eggs 21 days ago!

Glad it all worked out Uzi. I have had it go out 3 times with this latest hatch. 2 during incubation and once yesterday. I use a heat pad cave thing and it does not draw too much power, so a marine battery with an inverter keeps the incubator going and also runs the heating pad.

Unfortunately, they might not develop into anything because Untied Power is crap & our power is out. You know, now that the storm is done in our area & the snow is melting. They had the snottiest customer service rep tell me that it was an "act of God" & the power wouldn't be restored for hours.

Do any of you have tips on what I can do to try to prevent the chicks from dying of the cold? The last two are still in the incubator & I don't know if I should leave them in there without the fan circulating air, but I know they aren't dry yet. I'm officially panicking. They were expensive eggs & took a lot of hard work to hatch. Not to mention, the last three are definitely not hatching now.

I'm just really angry since every time a squirrel farts, it's an "act of God" & United Power can't get their equipment working for hours. All they give are excuses & rudeness. The roads are fine, the weather isn't even close to as bad as it was yesterday.

Sorry Uzi... Does your bator have a dc capability where you can plug it into a cig lighter in a car? I don't suppose you own a generator...

Do you have any neighbors or other family close enough that have power that could help you out? Posting without reading "downstream" to see what present status is.

Edit to say glad that UPwr came through for you

The others before me made some excellent suggestions... just for down the road "in case".

It is not snowing! I think we hit a little over 3 and a half feet of snow. I am tired of shoveling......
The sheep this morning were looking at me like, "Really? We live where now?" The snow was over their heads and they were hanging out in the shelter, waiting for me to get on it and dig out a proper path to the feeder. But on the plus side, I will not have to fill their water tank for awhile....

So much snow for some of us! I am glad I only got a few inches that stuck! I cannot imagine having to shovel out of 3+ feet of snow so the critters could eat.

Uzi, How are they holding up after such an event? I hope everyone is ok. Don't give up on the unhatched ones just yet. Nature is a mystery and they may still have a chance.

The sun actually came out here. There is blue sky showing and good weather ahead!

Those are simply excellent ideas! If I ever get up the nerve to hatch at this time of year again, I hope I will remember some of the ideas passed on here.

Thank you for asking. The one that hatched last (about an hour before the power went out) isn't doing so well right now. It's very weak. However, it had a similar hatch as Nbr 2 chick & is behaving similar to Nbr 2 after it hatched. I'm hoping it will perk up by tomorrow. It drank some electrolyte water but is mostly just sleeping right now. I did leave the other eggs in the incubator to see what would happen. They only have a week to go, so I didn't think it would hurt anything to leave them to finish the 21 days.

Well we didn't get tons of snow but it was enough. The wind was the worst part. I have a section of fence that is in need of replacement. Unfortunately it's shared with a neighbor that's renting and the management company is slow to give an answer on if they will pay for half. I was out there Saturday morning screwing in more boards to help hold it together. A big gust came and I almost got smacked in the face with the fence. The only thing that saved me was a patio chair I have sitting in front to prevent the whole thing from falling over.

Uzi, so glad your chicks hatched. Hope that last one pulls through and the power outage won't cause them any long term problems. Please share pics when they are all dried off and fluffy!

Mtn Margie, holy cow you got a lot of snow. I will stop complaining about the few inches we got here.

@Rock Home Isle I love the picture of your chicks looking out the window. What breed are they?
