Colorado

Hi Everyone!!!

I'm Hayley :) I'm in the Wash Park area with my chickens. I'm looking to add more Silkie hens to my flock! Anyone have any for sale or leads to one?? I'd be forever grateful!

@Hayleydanger I was looking at the swap section yesterday and there are two male silkies available in Colorado. Not sure if you are interested in a roo. If not, perhaps that person can point you in the direction of where his/her silkies came from originally.

Snowing and blowing the morning. The girls did not come out when I opened the pop door.

Snowed a little in the Springs before I left (3:30 AM) and snowed a little in Golden when I got to work. Not snowing now, but foggy as heck. Also not windy here. Have to ask hubby how the birds did this morning. hmm

Edit: Reluctant to mingle in the cold, he said.

It's been busy for me. Roads were very icy around Peyton and Falcon this morning. It took me an hour and a half to get to work. No one wanted to go out this morning so it was a packed coop haha. They have plenty of room but I'm afraid they are going to get bored this winter. Last winter the adults had no problem going out in the run and yard. Maybe it's because they don't have a covered run anymore and just free range. The older chickens never really liked walking in the snow. I tossed out mealworms, scratch grains, and BOSS to give them something to do. I put down some new straw for them too; the chicks and ducklings love to search through it.

The older EEs (13 weeks) I hatched have yet to spend any significant time outside. I have taken them out and they just go right back in. Three of the 5 I butchered this past weekend so its just two now. I still have one cockerel but I didn't want to leave the lone pullet on her own. Maybe she will start following the older birds once he's gone.

The littler ones (7-8.5 weeks) have had free range of the coop for a couple weeks now. They really enjoy running around and even perch on some of the lower spots. They haven't gone outside either though. Mama and her 3 chicks are doing great. She is doing a wonderful job with them and they are all mingled with the flock now too. Little pecks here and there but everyone seems to be getting along just fine.

I went hiking this weekend and on the drive back came upon this cute fella. Not something you expect to see in the Rockies.
