Thanks Ossiander for the fox warning. I lost a girl a few months ago and tracked it down via footprints in the snow. Is it just that time of year? I'll be watching

I think it is that time of year for foxes, raccoons, etc - they have lots of little ones to feed.

Wow! This rain has been great for all the grass growing in my flower beds

. But it also makes it so easy to weed and pull out the grass.

Chicks we're probably gonna sell:
-black australorps
-black australorp cross egger
-cuckoo marans
-buff orpingtons

Sexes unknown ... probably mostly roos with some girls thrown in.

We have two bantam eggers that need to go, and together please. The girl is my avatar: Oddball. She has a crossed beak. Her protector is BB, a roo. They love each other but I just can't keep them. They were hatched Feb 16 so they are about 3 months old and might start laying soon. Make an offer. E-mail me.

Thanks.

Ok all, I live in highlands ranch and can have 4 chickens. I want them for eggs and to teach my children about where food comes from. But I could never eat or slaughter some thing I raised. So what does one do with their chickens once they stop laying eggs. If I can only have 4 I can't just keep adding to the flock. Are their chicken retirement homes?

Allright - let another rant begin. A pipe burst in the crawlspace today. A plumber came over. As I was writing out a check he began to tell me about his days 'growing up' in North Carolina. He would buy roosters for cock-fighting. "1600 dollars for 3, but they never give you the purebreds, because they don't want competition". He went so far as to draw pictures on the back of his notepad of the size and shape of knifes he would attach to his birds. As a child I spent some time in Asheville. Nonetheless, I said 'Get the F##k out and don't run over any of my girls on the way'. What is it with people? Is this why we are in Colorado?

A large, white goose was wandering our country cul-de-sac for 3 - 4 days. His/her wings had been seriously clipped and he/she was shot in the head....pellet gun I believe. I felt sorry for the goose and was afraid it was going to meet it's end with all the coyote and fox out here, so with a neighbor's help, caught the goose and have taken it in. It's living in the shed with a small enclosed pen for night time and a larger fenced area to wander during the day. I know very little about geese, but even I can tell the goose is extremely lonely. I would love to find the goose a good home. If anyone in the Denver/Elbert County Colorado area wants a goose as a pet, please let me know. Also, any advice would be appreciated on care or organizations that may be able to help this poor goose find a home!

Geese. Sounds like the goose that was shot with an arrow in Denver not too long ago. There is lots of room here in Franktown for an injured bird. Send me an email.

We have 5 cochin bantam chicks available locally--$3 each, from good black & blue mottled stock, no DQs for show or will make great pets. Hatched late April/early May (red marker on their heads). 3 F & 2 M--all go together. We're in the Denver West, Arvada, Golden area.

So. ANOTHER girl was taken by a fox tonight. That makes two, plus one to the banished neighbor dog. Sissy refused to come in @ dinnertime so I let her stay out while I went on BYC for 10 minutes. When I went to check on the barn before I left there were feathers. Just feathers. It's hard to distinguish the difference between a pet or member of the family. Now I feel numb. I promised myself, and Ossi, to would keep an extra vigilant eye out. I used to treat every living thing on this planet with respect, but that fox won't live past tomorrow. Ghillie, if you see this, I'm sorry. Preston
