Thanks Stickers!!!! I have been trying to determine just what breed my two black and copper pullets are. The guy who gave them to me has over 100 free range chickens and doesn't know the breed of any of them. After seeing your post I did some research (on BYC of course) and they match the Black Copper Maran hens perfectly. Can't post pics yet, or I probably would have found out a long time ago.

You can get Ameraucanas through Strasburg Feed. ( Up 85 to 470, East on I-70 not far to Strasburg.) You can order the sex you want. I just got 10 Ameraucana hens and 1 Roo through them. I live in Northeastern Colorado, So I ordered them by phone and my daughter who lives in Bennett ( the next town west of Strasburg) picked them up for me. They don't charge for shipping. Priced at $2.85 for hens and $1.50 for the Roo. Not bad.

I and my brood live 17 miles northwest of Holyoke . That would be 30 miles from the Nebraska border to the East and/or North.

Hi there - I'm new to BYC and to chickens in general - getting my first 4 chicks in 2 weeks! Are there many metro-Denver people here on the thread? I'm on the south side of the suburbs near Lone Tree. I can't wait to get my chicks!

I went to the post office this morning to pick up my chicks from Whitmore Farm. Sadly, all were dead. I feel so rotten. If I hadn't ordered these chicks from Maryland, perhaps they would still be alive somewhere closer to their home. One of the other ladies who joined me in this order lost a whole shipment of chicks earlier this year. Is it just too dangerous to ship chicks to the mountains of Colorado? Should I stop doing this?

These were going to be my first chicks. I just had to have some Welsummers. I am thinking now that I should just have been happy with chicks I could buy locally.
