Quick question...In Colorado, what problems do you all mostly see with your chickens? Is there a major worm problem? Lice? Mites? Thoughts? Thanks

Hi everyone,

A fellow BYC member needs our support. Adozengirlz has her Christmas tree in a contest. She decorated it with blown eggs that she decorated herself. The tree is very stunning. I know there arent as many problems as those living in warm climates year round...We get the cold weather, which helps...

I had two batches this fall. One from BanjoeJoe, in Ohio I think, have 5 chickens of 8 eggs (6 hatched, one chicklet died), from South Carolina, FarmerJohn, 2 of 8 eggs. First time hatching. 4 of the eggs from Carolina had detached air sacs from rough handling in the mail. They were delivered to my door. The ones from Ohio were picked up at the post office; no detached air sacs. Don't know if that was part of the difference.

Wow, most of us would love to only get one roo per that many eggs hatched

I never had any problems with my chickens colds, worms, etc. until we moved up here to Brighton and unfortunately put the flock into an older cow barn. I think there are definitely some coodies in there that have been dormant until of course my birds were put in there. Plus it's not the most air tight barn either. Hubby said after Christmas we'll start on a new coop

He's tired of me hinting and whining and all (finally)
So in general I think CO is a pretty good place to have birds. Not very many of us are on the Emergency/Ills thread that I've noticed.

Snowing pretty good above 6500' in Hidden Village, Parker right now.

I have Christmas music going, a cup of hot chocolate and the snow is coming down. Sometimes it's like Norman Rockwell threw up on Colorado.
