Anyone know where I can get a Japanese Bantam or a Serama pullet or hen?

We placed an order with Cackle Hatchery and our Dom chicks will be here around the 16th of May. The incubator arrived last week. (GQF Genesis 1588) Still need to order good quality Dom hatching eggs. The brooder is built and ready to go.
Most of the lumber for the fence arrived. Now for the weather to cooperate in order to get the construction done before the chicks and eggs arrive...... Got a gate finished yesterday. I need a few nights with above freezing temps so I can get the rest of the posts in and the cement set without cracking.

Just good luck on those temps you're needing. These past few winters have been bitter cold. Born and raised here and It just seems to be getting colder for longer periods than it used to.

Thanks. I'm just glad I have had several afternoons in the 40's with sun and relatively low wind so I can get at least some of the stuff done. I still have about 47 posts to set. We are enclosing the back yard at the same time. I figure that if my chicks arrive on the 16th of May, then I have 4-6 weeks of the in the brooder, which will be in the garage. That gives me until the latter part of June to get all the fence done. I still have to buy most of the fence slats........

Just curious as to whether you colorado peeps vaccinate your chicks for Marek's or the cocci thingy. I think I understand the cocci thingy can be taken care of(?) by using medicated chick feed. I like to stay as organic as I can, however, so wondering about your thoughts on this. Also have any of you checked with the extension agents about the prevalence(sp) of Marek's in the area? I am in Colorado Springs.

ETA: I will not be getting my chicks directly from the Hatchery, altho that may be the original source. Thinking of going to Elizabeth.

All but 1 of my chicks are from Elizabeth (BIg R). Frank's feed has them, too. The other from a fellow BYC'er in the Springs. Never vaccinated and never had a problem. They're 2 years now and I want some more babies soon. Big R will have them 'the first or second week of March' but Franks has a different selection. I think you have to order them from Franks and you never know what youll get at Big R. Sorry if that's WTMI but welcome to BYC!

I am SO mad. I had arranged with a breeder in Fountain thru Craigslist to get Black Australorp and Welsummer chicks. She wanted prepayment but wouldn't give me her address to mail a check. Said she'd arrange a meet.
She emailed me one Friday in Jan and said..."I know this is short notice but can you meet me at Big R in Fountain tomorrow"? Well, needless to say I didn't even open my email that weekend, so I missed her. I immediately emailed her to explain the problem. Also called her phone and left a message. Asked her to set up any other day for a meet and I would make it. Never heard from her again. But she had told me before not to worry I was the first person on her list.

Was getting real worried so I emailed her today and said, What's up with the chicks? Still coming in February? She just emailed me back basically saying cuz I hadn't paid her I should go elsewhere. I particularly wanted private breeder birds. Now I'm stuck with no chicks.

I'M FURIOUS !!!

Blimpy. She is permanently molting and her butt is almost always purple from Blu-Kote. She and Penny are the only 2 left of the 'original' flock. 6 down but haven't seen a fox (or dog) since the killer guard puppy showed up, just a hawk

. The last one just plain hopped the fence an disappeared. I would like 2 more EE's and 2 Leghorns if you hear anything. Keep in touch, stranger. Preston
