i'm getting soo anxious to get my chickens in their coop! We ordered the thing and there was a 2 wks delay in shipping....well they didn't notify us so we still don't have the thing! It was ordered april 8th!

Hopefully we'll get it by this friday so i can make hubby build the run for it this weekend!

I don't know if y'all remember when we got our little flock of six...this was Anne Boleyn, an Ameraucana, born March 7, so she is now 7 weeks old, and some of you said you thought by her markings she might be a roo...well yesterday morning, when cleaning the dog crate they are now all in ..downstairs kitchen...she did a couple of half crows...sort of a cock a doo. So we are thinking she is not truly Anne but rather Henry in disguise, tho we are waiting to see if further signs indicate it. She definitely is agressive and more restless than the others. We have finally gotten a local builder to do our coop and we should have it in a couple of weeks now. the chicks are eating a ton and we know they would love to be outside. They are all between 7 and 5 weeks now. So we may be looking for a home for Henry and perhaps swapping Henry for another Ameraucana pullet about the same age. So where are the local chicken swaps?

for those that have had chickens thru the winter.....

would you recommend getting a heated waterer? And if so, what brand/model? I need to upgrade my feeder and waterer once i get them in the coop because they are just too small for them and thought i'd get some opinions/reviews here before going out to get them.

I have a small aquarium heater that I put into mine. I have a three gallon bucket with water nipples beneath it and I cycle the heater on and off using a timer throughout most of the winter. Works great!

I'm dying to know but what is this 'thing' of which you speak?

Can anyone offer a recommendation for an automatic chicken door? We are headed out for a trip in may and I can't have the girls stuck inside the entire time as the flock has grown.

Any recommendations?

Ordered the pullet shut door from chicks doors.com. Should be here this week. It's a smaller door but made of metal instead of wood. Should be able to use it on my existing pretty easily. Will report back with pics and a review once it's in.

Ryan,

I have had the pullet-shut for about a month and a half or two months, with solar battery and the light sensor opener. Was a little pricey, but since I have no electricity and no skills that would be necessary to do my own wiring it worked for me. I love the door, it works great.... I couldn't be happier with it.

I had one minor problem with it opening once when I didn't want it to. Sent them an email as it was 'after hours', and to my surprise they called back that same evening to work out the problem. I found their support to be above average.

Well, just my take on it for what it's worth.

ETA: Sorry Ryan, I hadn't been on in a few days, responded as soon as I saw your post, THEN saw you had already ordered. It's SUPER easy to install, hope you like it as much as I do.
