What a proud fluffy hen! She looks so pleased with herself and the chicks are quite cute and camouflaged :jumpy

I'm sorry to hear about Beth - she has such a great attitude about it and I'm glad that you both find solace in each other and your animals.

Can you see the chick in the first pic? Nice camoflage...

Add: I got a closer look at the second chick. They are both clean legged, so both from Coloradogal eggs.

Add#2: Chick number 3 is here, also clean legged. So only Silkie babies left to hatch. Ironic since everyone said Silkies were notorious for hatching early and here my LF eggs all hatch and are mostly dry before the first Silkie is out of its shell! Hope I see one soon, I am starting to worry.
Of mine that hatched, all of Nemi's survived (all that were fertile after day 7 went on to hatch) and are thriving today. Of the silkies eggs sent, I only have 2 left. I lost one more yesterday and it's in a baggy outside waiting to be buried. I'm excited that you had such a great hatch rate with the eggs I gave you considering I didn't have longer to get a pretty clutch together. I hope you get some silkies...i absolutely adore my silkies. I know they aren't much of a chicken but I do get so much joy out of them and my two remaining polish chicks.

also remember that silkies have black skin and that circular bulge on the top of their head so should be easy to distinguish. silkies, even as hatchlings look so weird. :)

Ok, the little bugs go into hiding whenever I go out to look at them but I finally got a decent pic of a dried chick! Still havent seen the Silkie chick this morning but when I went out (without the camera, of course) I had all LF chicks in view. Two poking their heads out from under momma's feathers and one on her back. They all look the same and seem to take after their dad.

That is so cool. I can only see the one on her back, not the babies poking out. Have any of the other silkies hatched yet?

Went out to check on the chickens last night at about 8:30. Two of the EE pullets were roosting on the rafters. Thats 8 feet from the ground, and about 4 1/2 feet above the highest roosts. I'm just glad Hannah (16 Y. O. daughter) and I didn't get pooped on!

wsmith you and Beth are in my thoughts. It's hard to know what to say at a time like this.

P-Funk so sorry to hear your girl passed. But what a sweet suprise she gave you lastnight eh...

There is only the one in that pic. By the time I got the camera they were all in hiding. I have to sneak over to get the pics and snap them within twenty seconds of opening the door or all babies vanish.

One Silkie hatched, looks black but is the most hidden of the four. I am guessing it is mottled; the lady who sold the eggs to me said she had a mottled roo and a splash roo over partridge hens. I will try and get a pic of her later but the only reason I know she hatched is that she was clumsy enough that she fell out from under mamma-Summer when she hatched. It was about 95 out so no real worries about her getting cold.
