Colorado

Well, I listed the two roo chicks for sale today. Hopefully I get someone nice soon. :) Little guys are getting big and I wouldn't be surprised if they started crowing soon. And DH hasn't gotten the stand to set up the netting up yet so it's good they haven't figured out that they can escape. guess it helps that momma can't get four inches up without supreme effort. No one to mimic!

First day I've done fermented feed for the older gals. I was worried they would reject it... nope. They cleaned the pot clean. I'm truly hoping that it will help bring their overall cost of food down doing it this way.

I have a cask of vinegar with lots of mother so used a combination of vinegar and the water rinse from my kefir to ferment it. It was bubbling today so work was being done. I want to order some water kefir grains, unless Whole Foods has them... and maybe that will work even better.

Good to know, gal...I've been reading the threads here and am really interested in trying it. Have you checked out BeeKissed's thread? She started her fermentation water with Bragg's and has just "kept it going" ever since, so it was just a one time investment. The culture remains in the water and feeds on the new grains introduced.

I don't know much about Bragg's but can't see why it won't work. I did the same thing today with the water. I just strained the mush and grains and sent it out to them. They ingested it. :) I'll know in a week or so if indeed it helps with feed costs. I'll have to check BeeKissed's thread. They have come up with a new term for using fermented food to keep creatures infection free. They call them fermbiotics. :) Sounds almost obscene.

Bummer, Wendell, but no point going away to worry, huh?

My RIR left me a perfectly normal egg in the nest box today (whew!) so for now, I'm going with something spooked them overnight.

Had a visitor to the gate of the enclosure tonight - first tarantula we've seen here in a few years. Attempting to attach a pic of it, and one of my two big girls.

Kind of hard to see, it's the dark brown thing with legs about in the center of the walkway to the gate. Was headed for imminent death, Red was licking her chops, so we scooped it up and moved it to the other side of the vegetable beds beyond the enclosure, hoping he continued on his way. I am assuming it's fall migration time for them, and will try to watch my step the next several days.

I have been off the site for a bit and am still catching up but I brought one of my girls in the house to get a large (not near that size) spider that crossed my path the other day. If that thing crossed my path it would have been chicken treats! I would have video taped it though.

I have been having fun the last few weeks watching my girls and the local wild life. They do not like other birds in the yard, it is funny to watch them attack them...they get away but not without a few pecks. They also attacked our local squirrel, but I am starting to think they have made friends with her now. Menchi is such a good leader, she will lead a few attacks but she mostly supervises the other two.

LOL YUP!

She put in on the tray table and then when the doctor came in she said, "Loook what I found in my bed!" too funny.

I am glad your wife still has her sense of humor, I think it is the most important part of recovery. It was for my dad. I have been woried about you two for the past few weeks (not been on the site) I am glad that things are geting better now. You are both in my thoughts and prays.

Okay last post, for the day... I have to get some work done.

I started a thread on the idea of getting together sometime to learn how to cook/can from some of the other members. I have an idea for a neutral location that we could use. If you want to consider this or want to join in please respond to this thread and give me some feedback. Thanks!

Thanks. Haven't posted Beth updates on here for a while, didn't want to keep worrying people, etc.

Beth has been in the hospital since last Tuesday early morning (12:40 AM) she has had a surgery and her list of ailments include kidney failure, lung blood clots, peural fluid accumulation and of course Cancer. Staph infection in the pleural fluid that had to get cleaned out. As of this morning, the doctors are "cautiously optomistic". We are hopin for her to go home by next week.
