Now why would you "can" a food item that is available year round in every grocery and corner store and has a shelf life of 15 years?![]()

There's a storm coming and it's always nice to have a pantry full for when it hits. It's also a lifestyle too. I save tons of money by buying things when they are on sale and not when I need it. So I picked up peanut butter when it was a $1 a bottle last year and am still working through my stash... same goes with most everything else. Buy the veggies in the fall when they are usually inexpensive, can them and have them until the next fall. I always try to put enough ahead to get through if personal tragedy (unexpected bill or loss of job) or even community tragedy (blizzard) should happen. It's always been this way in my family and I'm surprised at how often, even in my short life, I or close friends have had to rely on it. I may lose my job in about 2 months so everything that I can put aside now when I have the extra to spend will be one less thing I have to buy when it happens.![]()
Did I mention that we brought Beth home on Saturday afternoon?
