Please post some photos, lots of photos....
I have friends and family out with you guys, lots of Rocky Mountain Horse people.
All we have is Sunshine and was up to 80* today.:( So ready for some cooler weather. Wish it was highs in the mid 60*s. Have to wait til the end of January to mid February for that.
Love hearing about all the chickens and people in the great state of Colorado. And ya'll have not been over run with out of state fokes.

Hey I left FL for CO and love it, only now I get to be one of the out-of-staters "natives"can complain about lol

OK, all you guys talking about hatching eggs are making this old lady pout. I SO want to hatch eggs, under a broody. Sadly, no rooster for me, and so far no signs of a broody, although I am considering buying fertile eggs if a broody ever shows up in my coop. My own fault, when I selected pullets, I deliberately looked for those that seldom went broody, since I saw no need for a broody hen when I couldn't have a rooster.

On a positive note, that beautiful, worthless, non laying EE I have has been ducking in and out of the nest boxes, and has dug out two (count them, 2) nests. I guess she likes having choices. She keeps throwing out the golf balls I have in there. I am now missing 3 golf balls. Don't know what they are buried under, but I'm certainly not going looking for them until she actually lays her first egg, which MIGHT be soon. I think she is now 31 weeks old. I helped Wendell slaughter some chickens about 4 weeks ago. Good thing for her I'm a patient person.

Yes the Wellie with feather loss is definitely going through a mini molt. Almost as soon as she loses feathers, I can see new feathers coming through the shafts. But she sure waited til late in the season to do this. I was expecting it more like in October, NOT December. She is a pitiful looking thing right now. Only losing from the back of her neck and her head right now, but her whole body looks so..........scruffy, untidy, not sleek. Like she has lotsa loose feathers that just don't lay down quite right. She's pretty **** ugly.

ETA: Sorry, didn't know the 'darn' word was considered offensive.

Hate to be the one to tell you this but sometimes chickens who have not laid prior to winter, do not start laying until March, when the sunlight gets back up a little. I suspect I have about 10 laying hens right now that are just waiting. The best time for chicks really is early March/April because generally they always start laying in time.

If you do get a broody, just ask for some fertile eggs. Just buy a dozen of eggs from me and I'll make sure that they are pretty eggs. :) Then you can either eat them or place them under a broody hen.

So far, just windy with a few spits of snow. But I'm making my chckens some oatmeal this morning. Crappy days deserve oatmeal. I'm throwing in some leftover bread from yesterday's loaf, some whey from some kefir cheese I made last night and some pancake leftovers from this morning. I suspect they will think they have died and gone to heaven without losing their heads. :)

just a "little" breezy at my place this morning..... and by that I meanit was REALLY blowing hard! No snow at my place, but a little at the Hangar just off Fountain and Powers where i work.

We got about 3 inches here, and looks like there could be some more to come...in fact, just looked out the window and it's snowing again. No wind though, thank heaven. It blew pretty good for a couple days. Looks like we might just have a white Christmas unless it warms way up and melts it off in the next week.

And there you go. I was telling Beth this last night. We have one EE that was slow, and also a Dom pullet that isn't laying. We're pretty sure that they will wait until March or so to lay. BUT.... they should go like gang-busters then!

I'm keeping mine shut in today. I hate to do that to them because there are sooooo many of them but the wind is too strong. We still only have spitting snow but the snow isn't suppose to even start until 8 so I suspect it's still on its way. I'll be checking on them all day today. I hate putting water in the coop itself but had to. It's so dark and dreary that I'm hoping it'll be enough to keep them calm while being cooped up.

It's snowing and windy here. There is snow on the ground but you can see the grass still. I'm with you Mayah, my feather heads are staying inside. With my reworking the flock this fall though they have plenty of space. My 4 LF gals are in a 4x6 and the 4 banties are in a 4x4 plus 3 sq ft of nest box space. And everyone got oatmeal with pomegranate yogurt this morning. :)

And DH bought me an incubator for Christmas!!! It's the Farm Innovators 4200 with turner!!!!!
