Hmmm. Is there any way you can segregate them, but have her in sight? Is she still limping? Chickens can be brutal. They will sometimes try to eliminate a percieved weakness in the flock, to the point of killing it. If you can keep them together, but with some sort of barrier or protection for the one getting pecked, it may work, then again, it may not. Any time we add birds to the flock the flock dynamic changes and it gets sorted out all over again. If she was already at the bottom of the pile, it will be hard on her.
This is instinct in any herd/pack/flock, and I would probably do as Wendell suggests and give her her own space in full view of the rest of the flock. Integration issues are tough. There is no perfect solution, and any time flocks are mingled, pecking order will be re-established. If you can give the low girl in the order a break and get her as robustly healthy as she can be before attempting re-integration it will help. Ultimately she might be better off in a new flock of bantams or young pullets where she can be the boss for a while and gain some confidence.

Hi Shylee,  Thanks, will think on checking it out.  Nice that the animals are handled well, I often wondered if this is true at the sale barns that have tack and small animal sales.  Yes, hoping I can make the Ntl Western Stock Show this year, I have tried years before, but never succeeded in getting there.  Had some neighbors that bought several paint AQHA horses from the stock show, very nice animals!  Which would be the better day for poultry?  The 20th or 21st?

Little Man is doing well, btw, he likes his girls, and even though he is half their size, shows them who is boss!  lol

Those bantam size roos are big men in a little body!! Glad he's settling in. At the stock show, either day is good. Depends on what u want to see.

Well since I just have the other 3 girls for a short time I will just keep them a part only at hight. I am going to be choosey with the new chicks I add. More gentle girls, except the turkeys.... We will try with young chicks.

that sucks - like Chersterchook says, some people have nothing better to do than flag stuff for no reason.

where are you located? I'm in Highlands Ranch and currently source my eggs from Golden (as I often fly from Boulder), so I'm always looking for closer sources for eggs until I get my coop up and running.

Someone else near me!!!!

Mayah are you here tonight? The hen with the broken beak could use some of your healing advice ...

I had a date last night that was just blah. It was one of those dates that are sooo hard to get through that it just left me tired and drained. Now I know how people feel when I talk ad nauseum about my chickens. anyhoo

How's she doing? Small beak injuries should grow out in time. There didn't seem to be a huge loss of blood, which tends to be the killer of beak billed critters, so that's a big, big plus. Think of the beak like your tooth as far as pain. I suspect she's in a lot of pain right now. I would continue to keep her separated, give her mash instead of hard food and keep her calm. Just monitor her poo and make sure it looks acceptable. Are you doing fermented food? If you aren't, just run to the store and pick up a small little thing of buttermilk. Take half of it and pour it with some milk and leave it on the counter overnight -if you use cream, you'll have sour cream by the next morning.... the other half, put in some crumbles until it softens. The lactic acid bacteria in there should keep the icks away from the wound and the milk fat globules should do some coating. I would not do a vinegar mash as I suspect that would sting like a mother. The next day, your buttermilk infused milk should be clobbered and take out half, and do it again. Keep the mixture in glass jars and well fed. If you do it longer than a couple of days, you should be able to culture more milk so its less work. When its ready, just put it in the fridge.

Skippy: I'm in Falcon near the county airport.

Well, Mr Molly (my Silkie cockerel) has started dancing for the ladies. It's hilarious! He runs side by side with Summer until he gets her to stop then kicks up his heals. Even when he is dancing it looks like he is leaning on her. Poor Summer just seems confused and pestered.

Said she seemed like she wasn't doing as well yesterday afternoon, and was leaning/tilting to one side when she is lying down/resting; does say her comb is nice and red and that she doesn't seem to have any nasal discharge, but not very excited about eating and drinking and poo looks dark. Haven't seen anything new today yet, although I've been on and off taking care of some other things. I like the ideas with buttermilk.

Sounds like not a very fun date.

I suspect she's in a lot of pain. Just give supportive care.

Sigh, dating... I suspect I'll have the same problem most of us on here would if they were to be dating again. We see value in things that so many just write off unless it has 4 legs. He was a nice professional man and I wore a nice black dress with heels and he just thought the whole chicken thing was a little 'quaint'. I mean, who uses that word, right? And then when I explained I am not a huge drinker nor do I drink soda... It just put me in the weird category. We are suppose to have dinner again next week but suspect there is no chance for anything more. It use to be love me love my dogs.... and now it's, 'love me, love my family, love my dogs, and love my chickens...' I think that classifies me as having way too much baggage. My son teases me and says I'm going to shoot right past the crazy cat lady to become the crazy chicken lady... I smile and say, 'at least chickens don't carry toxoplasmosis...'.

edit: anyone have any potossium hydroxide? i need to make some liquid soap and hate the thought of having to buy it.

I wanted to announce the birth of http://coloradochickens.com - have a look, it is FAR from done, we haven't put anything up for Breeds or Coops yet, and the Q&A page may or may not work, still trying to understand it, but it is a start. There are a few pages already reserved that have information on them - Windy Ridge Dominiques, Chick In The Burbs, and mine (Biddy Bounty) but we have plenty of room and can add a page for pretty much any of you here in CO, whether you want to just put up pics of your birds and/or coops, sell eggs/chicks/chickens/whatever - just PM me if you want to add something. If you have comments you can PM them to me or sign the guestbook. I am learning as I go, have never built a website before, so be kind - tell me if something can be better, by all means, just remember you are talking to a beginner.
