Colorado

I often get the odd ball card, I just got lucky and found a guy who understood. When we meet DH had two runts from a kitty mill that was going to be culled by the police when he intervened (he called them on the place). And a white retarded crossed eyed kitty who chased phantom dots from a crack house (sister was a cop). I had the minx that was the neighborhood slut and the manufactured minx, someone dislocated her tail and we had to have it removed (she was mine before that). All cats minus my manufactured minx, had long happy lives. My kitty was killed by a rattlesnake when she was five.

I know people think I am strange for having chickens but at least I don't have to feel bad about one source of food I eat. My girls are spoiled, they have an insulated coop with a heat lamp and two cameras, the old timers would laugh but I get three eggs a day with the added light and the coop only gets to the teens on bad nights a few hours a night. (They also just got steak.) Also I was strange to start with and chickens don't really make that worse.

I have not been on, got to spend some quality time with DH for the holidays and also spent a lot of time sewing gifts for my nieces and nephews. So welcome everyone new. Pozees I am sorry about your girl I hope she gets better. Wendel how is your wife doing? I hope everyone had a good holiday. Did anyone give Christmas gifts to there chickens this year? I gave mine half a pomegranate.

It's not my hen that's having trouble, it's one that belongs to a newer member, I just caught yesterday late that she seemed to have gone backwards yesterday and I know Mayah can work a few little miracles with under-the-weather critters :)

I'd love to see a picture of the siamese cat. I have this image in age in my head now that just won't go away.

Minchi: I know I should feel weird about doing this but I give my birds that leftover turkey bones to pick through. I would never feed them chicken but they do get turkey bones. They pick through the bones until there is nothing left. Pomegranate would be a better gift I suspect.

This is Chester, named after Matt Dillon's gimpy sidekick played by Dennis Weaver. Ironically, the vet's last name is Goode :)

I think i've narrowed my breeds down to dominique, favaucana, wyndotte, blue splash or copper marans, welsummer and swedish flower....now i need to figure out if i can find them and which ones i really want. I'm only planning on getting 3 - 5 more chicks

Wendell can certainly help with the Dominique :)

Mayah, I have a box of pot hydro. I would have to mail it out to you. PM me with an address if you want. How about a dating page on the old coloradochickens site? Surely there are some worthy homesteader types out there.

If I can figure out how ... like, how you do it and stay safe, you know what I mean? In addition to the technology issues - I'm overmatched already LOL. If someone has an idea of how to do it, I'm open to suggestion.

And I'm sorry but I have to ask - what the heck is pot hydro?

BTW, I always mean to tell you how your sig line makes me laugh every time I read it :)

Potassium hydroxide used in making soap, ie. lye. Used to be easy to come by, now it is just another one of those, could be used against humanity type of things, you must be totally wacked out if you have this sitting around, because "no one makes homemade soap anymore" !!! Or grow your own food???!!! It GROWS????!!!!! I was out burning slash piles today and what a job that is. Fun until it is time to put them out.

Gotcha' :) One of those things I'm hoping to learn one day when I *finally* have time to visit Mayah - heck so far I haven't even had time to visit Wendell, and he lives minutes from my office.

Sad the number of people in my age group who grew up with virtually no skills for self-suffiency. I've spent a lot of my adult years trying to learn things previous generations learned growing up. Easy food is nice, but when you learn how it gets to be easy, it seems a lot less nice. Rather grow and preserve my own any more.

You're web page looks fantastic. It will be so nice to have access to local breeders! I don't have chickens to sell, i have sixteen for eggs, and will be looking into meat birds in the early spring. But someday...would like to raise Cream Legbars and a few Marans . I am so happy you all are doing this. I worry about swaps since I don't know the folks. But I feel I know the folks here as I do follow this site but do not frequently post. Thank you for doing this! Much appreciated.

Wendel how is your wife doing?

Well, she had her Bone scan two weeks ago and her CT last week. We finally go the Doctor to call and let us know the "official " results.....
The bone scan show additonal active locations on her pelvis and spine. Not good there. The CT scan showed no change in the lung tumors. This is actually good. That means it hasn't gotten worse, so chemo continues.

Thanks for taking a look! As you can see, we are in our infancy, but it's a start. Let me know if you want a page to post your eggs.
