We're using the bucket method too, very convenient.
Pozees, what made you decide on that particular combination for your scratch mix? I've just heard about BOSS, is that shelled or unshelled?
It's whole seed with shells, and they love it - usually pick it out first these days. What made me decide on the combo I'm using right now was just watching what they actually ate from the commercial scratch available. They left the milo for the local wild birds. I hate wasting money. I do feed wild birds, but most wild bird mixes actually have less milo and more millet. The oats they don't really love dry, but wet/fermented it's apparently delicious :) They also love it when I have leftover oatmeal. Really, anything. I have given them ham bones with some meat left on them, turkey carcasses, ham and bean soup, whatever I have a little left of that isn't worth storing and not spoiled. They are like piranhas.

I was gone all day. She is about the same. Only wants to eat her yogurt mixture off my finger, I may have spoiled her a bit too much! I did give her some wormer this morning, poop still dark green and runny. Question on the fermented food, what is the difference between that and yogurt? She has ACV in her water and is drinking well so that doesn't bother her. Still taking some breaths through her beak, wondering if she bruised her sternum (if that is what chickens have) and that is making her a little uncomfortable. I can only imagine how painful and stressful it was for her to break her beak. That would take a lot of force wouldn't it? Thank you so much for the advice and support. Trying to stay positive.

My girl Bowie had some poo issues that I was worried about so I brought her in to monitor for a few days. The poos weren't getting better with yogurt and ACV added to her food, so I gave her the recommended amount of Sulmet and it kicked it in the butt. The poos were runny and dark green, and the night before I started sulmet she had some blood in the poo which made me thing coccidiosis. At the same time she decided to stop laying and mini molt so we haven't seen eggs since (about a month). She's about to be reintroduced to the flock because she's doing so much better and all the feathers have grown in pretty well.

So... in relation to your girlie, I'd watch her poos a for a few more days at least before considering a medicine and don't use sulmet if you can avoid it (depending on who you talk to it has a long/never egg withdrawl). The broken beak accounts for most of what I've seen in your posts, but keep an eye on that poo.

I've noticed that with the Milo too, they gobble up the corn and wheat though. Do you ferment the unshelled boss also?
I thought of piranhas too after seeing how they picked over the remains of the turkey carcasses after the holidays lol

Thanks for the suggestion. She has yet to lay an egg, I think the beak threw her off. I did worm her so if she does lay I have to toss her eggs for a little while. I don't have sulmet. Giving her time. She is still talkative and her comb and face have lots of color.

Well, she had her Bone scan two weeks ago and her CT last week. We finally go the Doctor to call and let us know the "official " results.....
The bone scan show additonal active locations on her pelvis and spine. Not good there. The CT scan showed no change in the lung tumors. This is actually good. That means it hasn't gotten worse, so chemo continues.

Hopefully the chemo will help with the new active areas but it is a good sign that her lungs are not worse. I will keep you both in my prayers.

Yes, it's part of the scratch I mix up, so every day I add a scoop of scratch and about a half scoop of layer crumble, which becomes about three heaping slotted spoonfuls I take out to feed them. I'm to raise chicks on fermented chick feed this spring. People have said they believe it makes the chicks feather out faster, and if I had the room/time I'd do a side by side experiment to see if there were significant differences. I know the people who raise meat birds swear it cuts way down on the smell, and I'm all for that :)

There is actually someone who did three sets of meaties and recorded all the results really well. If you want, I can find you the thread. They were very scientific in their recordings.
