Colorado

Wow!
Coloradogal thanks for posting about the craigs list guy. I have been watching all of the drama on CL and wondering about Joe. Glad you asked such direct questions! Go you! Hopefully this guy will stop posting if he is doing anything dishonest. :) I think if more people asked to see his "loving home" he would know to stop.

He just called me back, yet again. He now says that if I am dropping off chickens, I can go out there. He wanted to know if I had any to drop off. I don't as we all know how weird I am with where mine go. He told me he did go the auction once but it was to buy a chicken, not sell it.

What I don't understand is if he wants rehomed chickens so bad, why won't he just join a site like this, get to know people and then ask.

CL is mentally cheaper! Not many ask questions......
On another note, when do your crosses usually start to lay? The older girl will be 4 months here soon so I am curious on what to expect.

I would give them until they are at least 6 months...although both mine are getting darker in their comb now. I'm not sure how winter will affect their lay cycle. My hope is by having them later in the year like these, they'll be laying gangbusters by the time early spring is here. I still have EEs and marans not laying from last year. It's very frustrating.

Did you get a good boy to girl ratio?

Got a lot done this morning. A buddy and I went and got 18 large bags of mulch from the free much pile from the City of Colorado Springs. Then we unloaded it and spread it out.

I gave one of the bags to the chickens. They seem to enjoy it.

Too much effort to get involved with a site when he's been having enough luck with Craigs I suppose

I'm sure there are more people than we realize that jump on the backyard chicken wagon and realize there is some work in having a successful flock. Especially when you start with day-olds. So when they see a person who says 'lovig home for your unwanted birds" they jump at the chance.

Stock Show ?
What day are most of you going to go and check out the poultry? Sun the 20th or Mon the 21st? Trying to coordinate with the 7pm Rodeo. My daughter is starting to learn barrels and wants to see the barrel racing.

A late welcome to all of our new addicties (is this a real word)

Wendell, hugs to you and your wife. Thoughts are with you.
Margie, your Cal (dh calls him Carlos) is doing great with his Mama Sebbie and his baby who I still can tell the sex of, Pipper. He also has a girlfriend on the side

, Skittles one of my female ducks. She's a big Pekin girl. Mama gives him the business when he pays Skittles some attention.

Hope everyone had a great holiday and the new year started on a good note

Hey, glad you are "back", so to speak. I am officially a Grandma? How very cool. Joey asked me the other day about Cal and how he missed his goose and hoped he was okay. I think it would be fun to have an informal BYC get-together down at the Stock show. We could be dangerous as a group!

This is Joe's ad dated the 3rd, popped up on a search on "chicken"

Says he is disabled and eats through a feeding tube so no way he's eating the chickens you give him. Also says he lives "almost to Yoder" - which can mean a lot of things.

There's something off about this. Do you get the feeling he's lying, or that he's unwell? Maybe both? The tone of his ad makes me uncomfortable. I would not recommend visiting him alone.

LOL dangerous, indeed :) Many years ago I had a friend whose group of three buddies referred to themselves as The Ragers - gentle as lambs, just liked to have fun.

I keep going back and forth on dates, but still am leaning to the 21st. I'll have to go look for that link again to the schedule and see if I can figure out what's happening each day. Already told my boss I may take a vacation day that day for a poultry show, which he thinks is amusing but said it was fine.

It's usually better to go the Showmanship day so you're able to see all the birds otherwise the folks who bring them start packing up on Monday and you're lible to miss some of them. Speaking from past experience anyways.

Margie you do know that if you ever want Mr. Cal back you just need to holler. And he comes with family now if you want also. I love the 3 of them but I also know how it feels to get rid of one of your kids and sometimes the need and want to get them back is strong. So just let me know
